"Are you ready for Istanbul?" Nazrul asked as we collected our bags from the carousel.
I inhaled the air in the terminal and closed my eyes. "Hmm.... the question now is... is Istanbul ready for us?" We laughed as we walked towards the custom's lanes.
"Do you get jet lags or we can start doing our shopping right away today?" Nazrul looked at me.
Since it's my first time taking long haul flights, I couldn't decide. "I'm not sure yet. Let's check in our rooms, take a shower and ask me again after that."
Our arrival at the beautiful city was uneventful. We only had to wait for 2 minutes for an airport taxi to take us to Four Season Sultanahmet hotel. Ku Na recommended our accommodation. She knew I was so looking forward to visit all the historical places on foot. It was an excellent choice for a first time visitor like me.
I threw myself onto the queen sized bed and shut my eyes after locking the hotel room door. The beautiful Turkish carpet, the impressive furniture and curtains will have to wait; I'll admire them later. After my beauty sleep.
There's a knock on the door, not the front door, but the door next to the bed. I quickly got up and waited a few seconds. Was I dreaming? Two more knocks. Now I was positive it's real.
As I turned the knob Nazrul appeared. "Eh? What the...." I was stunned.
"Our rooms are connected, just FYI," said Nazrul. "Lock this door if you really want some privacy or keep both doors open if you don't mind sharing space with me." An evil laugh escaped his mouth.
"Of course I'm going to keep it locked." I almost slammed and locked the door in his face.
The huge bed was so inviting and the softness of the pillows made me forgot about Nazrul immediately and fell into a deep sleep. I didn't even notice I still had my clothes from yesterday clinging to my body.
"Wake up sleepy head..." A soft voice whispered behind my ear. He was so near I could feel his warm breath. How did Nazrul managed to get into my room if I had locked the connecting door? I wondered for a while before falling back to sleep.
"Time to explore. You don't come here everyday, princess..." That voice again.
"Get out!" I sat up straight on the bed and pointed to the door with my eyes still closed.
"Aww.... I'm hurt." It was not Nazrul but I recognized the voice. I opened my eyes slowly and saw a cloud of white smoke forming near the study desk that faced the window.
"You're here?" I couldn't contain my excitement realizing that Dwen was with us.
"You can see me?" Dwen's voice became clearer.
"I guess so. Although you look just like cigarette smoke trying to fill up some area." I waved my hand near the study desk. The white smoke remained, undisturbed by my movement.
"Can I go sight-seeing with you two today? I loved this city. I came here with my parents long time ago. Please? Please, can I go?" He begged.
I laughed rather too loudly. "You never asked for my permission whenever you appeared in my room, why now? Because Nazrul is here?"
There was a loud knock on the connecting door. "Are you OK? What was that noise?" Nazrul's muffled voice made me realize that he could be eavesdropping.
"Oh! Nothing! It's the TV," I shouted to the door. Then the phone rang. I grabbed it before the second ring.
"Hey! I heard my name being called just now. What's happening there? Can you open the door?" Nazrul was not giving up. He knew it. I thought he could sense it.
"It's the TV! By the way, what time are we going out? I'm starving?"
"Get yourself ready. We're going out at 1pm." Nazrul slammed the phone.
I checked my watch, it was already 12.50pm. "Shit! I haven't showered."
Dwen was laughing from one corner of the room. "Now that explains the funny smell here."
"Shut up, Dwen!" I grabbed my toiletries bag from the side table and entered the bathroom.
