Chapter 6: Wildflower About You

Monday Morning. 6:30am. I had gotten up early at 5:50am so I would actually have time to eat breakfast for once. I'm sitting down in the dining room by the kitchen, munching on some toaster waffles.... ok, I know it's not a proper breakfast, but I'm no chef, and it's at least better than a damn apple. Next to me is the flower, chilling in it's pot, as I'm eating a waffle in one hand and on my phone on the other. I'm actually surprised that it's been acting normal since Friday night, like, nothing weird or out of the ordinary has happened to it all weeking, no weird reactions... it's weird.
And then, of course, like the idiot I am thinking of that and then completely jinxing it, the flower starts to completely shrivel up, very suddenly and abruptly. "oh shit!-" I drop the phone and the toaster waffle out of shock, snatch the water bottle sitting right by the flower and messingly pour the water into the pot, accidentally spilling some water onto the table..... but nothing happens. Petrified, I bring the potted plant towards me, shoving the plate of the dry, flavorless breakfast to the side, quaking, and adding a little bit more water to it, and still... nothing happens to it, it just stays the same: shriveled up. I hold my head in my hands, devastated. I jolt back up to take another look at it. "......m-maybe I could replace it or something..." I muttered to myself. But would she even tell if it was the same flower or not? I didn't know what to do. I hesitantly rest one arm on the table, gently touch the petals of the flower with the other, hoping that would do something to it (and also hoping it doesn't fall apart as I touch it). And, as I do, the shrivel-ness goes away, and the flower returns back to normal, almost completely new. I hold my hand to my chest, "Oh thank god..." I whisper to myself. I don't know what I would've done if that didn't happen. I knew Jamie would've felt devastated. I'm just glad that it's ok. I take a longer look at the flower, finally feeling relaxed. I never got the chance to, so I take a closer, longer look at it, almost as if time had slowed down... drifting me away from reality as it's beauty carries me away ... beautiful just like her. Then, snapping me out of my hypnotic state, my phone goes off, "oh shit, I need to go!" I toss the paper plate with the waffles into the trash, grab my bag and the flower, then rush out the door, getting into my car and driving off to the school.
Thank god I wasn't late. By the time I got there, it was 6:50am, so at least I made it early. As i Park and exit the car, I see someone roll up to the school entrance on a motorcycle. Of course, it's Jacob, he's the only one who owns a motorcycle at this school. As he chains his bike to the bicycle chain, I walk up to him, "'sup, Jacob?" He turns towards me, and gives his signature peace sign as a 'hello', "mornin', Jake. I'm surprised your here early for once, I at least thought you'd take another 5 minutes lost in a wet dream before you would wake up," Jacob teased, and I playfully shoved him as a response. Don't worry, our friendship has always been like this, so ignore us when we make shitty roasts at each other.
Just then, another person with a scooter (an electric scooter, to be clear, so it looks like a motorcycle, but smaller and uses no gas), rolls up, even with a helmet on, too, covering their whole head. "...I thought you were the only one at this school with a bike like that," I tell Jacob, in confusion. ".... I thought so too..." he responds, also puzzled. The person rolls up to the bike chain and takes off their helmet... and it's her. Jamie. I stare in shock, but Jacob furrows his eyebrows in hatred. Jamie turns to us, and then says, "oh, hey Jake!" "H-hey Jamie! I didn't know you owned a scooter." "Yeah, I had gotten it for my birthday, but I rarely use it. My mom couldn't take me to school today, so I had to take myself." "Well, it looks pretty cool, you should use it more often!" Jamie smiles, but once she shifts her gaze to Jacob standing behind me (who was staring daggers into her soul), her expression drops as she takes a step back, closer to her scooter. Noticing this, I turn my head to Jacob, giving him a stern look, and, sighing, he relaxes his malice expression to a poker face, then bitterly says, "morning." I turn back to Jamie, "don't worry, he's just exhausted."  Her expression softens, softly smiles, then replies with "I mean, aren't we all? This is high school, of course." I chuckle slightly, also softly smiling. Then, before I get the chance to reply to her, Jacob interrupts, maintaining his trademarked resting bitch face, saying, "hey, we should go now, we don't wanna be late for English." I obviously knew what he was doing, because I know Jacob's schedule well enough to know that his first period was Chemistry, not english. But still, I give in to his request, so I quickly state to Jamie, "I'll see you later," then follow Jacob into the school as I see her wave goodbye, then going to chain her scooter to the bicycle chain.
"Jacob, I already talked to you on Saturday, I thought you'd do better today." "Oh, whatever do you mean Mr. Smooth Criminal?" Jacob sarcastically remarks, still in his resting bitch face to hide his anger. We walk on over to the school's water fountain, then I turn to him, leaning against the edge of the fountain as he sits down, "Jacob, you are clearly making a big deal out of absolutely nothing! First of all, you damn know that she's scared of you because of what happened last Friday, I mean, just straight up insulting her on how she acts and her appearance?? Really, Jacob??" "Well when you say it like that, it does sound crazy." I sigh, and as I avert my gaze from him for a moment, I see Jamie making her way towards the C building, expression softening. But Jacob quickly interrupts, "you're looking at her again, aren't you." I snap out of it, then look back at him, "what, n-no! I didn't even notice she was there!" "Mhm.... you know, I see the way you look at her, it gives me a headache." "Jacob, it's not like that, we're just friends." "But you're not even remotely getting any closer to her as a 'friend'. There's a shocker." "Jacob, please, be logical for once." "Maybe stop flirting with her, then I'll think about it. "I'm not flir-'' I stop. It hits me. I smirk at him, teasingly, "you're jealous, aren't you~?" Jacob breaks out of his poker face, eyes widening slightly in surprise, lips tightening shut, cheeks turning slightly pink, "I-I have nothing to be jealous of, shut your mouth." "Ah, so you are jealous, I see~. Can't believe an emo like you would ever be able to comprehend a feeling like that," I tease, sarcastically, as I take a moment to stop leaning on the fountain and put my hands on my hips, "then again, this isn't the first time this has happened, so I'm not surprised." "I'm not jealous. Fuck off." "aww, ur so cute when ur angwy uwu." "it's not fu-unny," he tries to retain his angry expression, but slightly giggles at my owo voice. At another attempt to make him laugh, I joke, (with a Solid Snake impression, "I'm trying to sneak past, but my jealousy's ᴰᵁᴹᴹᵞ ᵀᴴᴵᶜᶜ, and the sound of my anger keeps alerting my best friend."
He gets into a laughing fit, trying not to get the attention of the other students around us, but fails miserably. He jumps down from the fountain, almost tripping on his own shoes, but then bending down to try to take a breather. That joke never ceases to make him laugh, no matter how stupid it is. "God damn it, you're such an idiot," he bends back up, wiping a tear from his cheek. I smirk, put my hand to my chin, then reply with, "it's what I do best." The bell rings, and all the other teens around us begin to head to their classes. "Anyway, I'll see you later in homeroom, bye," Jacob cheerfully says to me, waving goodbye as he turns and walks towards the S building for Chemistry. I wave back and head to the D building for English. I'm glad I was able to change his attitude... Hopefully it stays that way for the rest of the week.
