Ash~
The sixth period ends. "Ash, come here." There it was again...that voice, I felt woozy. "Yes. I wanted to talk to you." I said and nodded. "But before that..." he walks over to the door and locks it, then walks back to me. "Come. Sit." He taps on the chair next to him. I walk to it and take a seat. "I just have questions, the first one is, Do you even follow the school rules?" Val leans closer to me, and he whispers in my ear, "No. I don't. In fact, I think they are bullshit. Especially the last one, I know you don't follow them...I can see it." I can feel my neck getting warm. Then, next thing I know, we're face to face. I can feel his breath hitting my lips. It smelled like mint. "Ash...do you trust me?" He murmured. I nodded slowly. "Then I think we should be friends." And he pulled away, smirking. I couldn't believe this was happening. I heard in the halls earlier it was hard to impress him. It was a challenge. "Right then...my other question is, what kind of personality do you have?" I just wanted to know more, I wish he'd give out his information to me like an open book. "Oh, I'm arrogant. But not to you."
"Why?"
"You'll see." Val chuckled. I gulped quietly. I was about to scream. "W-Well, thank you." I try to say, but it comes out as bits of phrases. "Ah, right," and he unlocked the door for me. "Thank you, Val." I thanked him, and I took my one step out the door until I felt something around my arm.
It was Val's. "You forgot your jacket, Ash!" and our arms were tangled like vines, trying to grab the jacket. I finally grasped it, and he unwrapped his arm from mine. Val didn't even notice it. "O-Oh, I'm sorry Its just that--God, I didn't mean it that way..." He stammered. I could tell he was starting to blush. He quickly scratched his head before getting noticed by the next door teacher. "Thanks again, Val..." I said blankly.
"Anything for my rose--I-I mean, my student." He smiled, and his white, shining teeth was shimmering in the hallway light, and just like that, he closed the door. I felt strange. He actually cared for me? What?I rush to my locker to put away my Social Studies things and retrieve my Science notebooks. I don't even have time to greet hello to my acquaintances that wave to me. Like nothing happened, I act like I enter the Science classroom normally. "You're 10 minutes late, pal," Mr. Jones scoffs, "and where's your pass?" "Mr. Mendez didn't give me one..." I reply. "Whatever, you just earned yourself a detention," He growled. That's when I heard the door opening, and slamming shut. It was him.
"Give her a break, Lee. Its only her first day," Val insists. It was the first time I've heard his voice in an angry tone.
"So what? What ya going to do? Tell on me? You mere child, learn some manners! She should've read the information packet that was mailed to her before the year started!" He shouts. Val's eyes narrowed, then he smirked, and he confronted Mr. Jones. The whole class was just staring at the two men. Val took his shirt off, and he wrapped it around his hands, then made an intimidating pose. He was ready to fight. Mr. Jones made the first punch, and Val constricted the shirt around his arm, and with his right fist, he made a hard punch across the face. The whole class was just like, 'OOOHHHHH'. Mr. Jones was already bleeding, and with another punch, Mr. Jones fainted. I just stared at his abs. They were a 6-pack. They were too perfect to be true. Val turns to look at me. "I won't get in trouble. They know I do this. I like to fight." The seventh period bell rang. The day went by so fast, and just like a snap of the fingers, the ninth period bell rang. Everyone ran out, screaming and jumping, locker to campus to dorm. I just walked. I wasn't in a hurry, besides, Alexander, my dorm partner was patient. I put the textbooks and notebooks that I needed for homework in my backpack and closed my locker, inserting the combination lock back in its place. I walk across the campus land and enter the dormitory apartment. All the students are talking near their rooms, but I ignore, like they are all under me. I go up to the second floor. I look for the room labeled 287. I grab the keys to the room on my belt and detach them and insert the keys in the lock. I enter the room and Alexander was there, hugging me. "Hey, Ash!" She happily says. "Hey," and I set my backpack on my side of the room, "I need to tell you something!" Alex jumps up and down, eager to know what I have to tell her, and she snaps her fingers in a sassy way. "Girl, details!!!" she insists. "Alright, alright. Mr. Mendez, or Val, I think he..." I can't finish my sentence, like, should I even tell anyone? Its so risky.
"He what?"
"Uh..uh...he--he..."
"He what?!"
"I-I think...you better not tell anyone!" I threaten.
"I swear, I will never tell a soul!"
"Okay, his arm was around mine when he was trying to give me my jacket..." I whisper.
Alex was squealing like a little girl. "Ahhhhhh, don't even freakin' lie to me!" I tell her I'm not.
After that, I tell her the usual crap. I didn't even notice how many hours we've been chatting and showing each other some Instagram posts. I check the clock. It is 8:00 PM. We've been chatting for four hours. "We should go to bed, kiddo." I joked. "Hey, I'm not a kid!" Alex whined. We laughed. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and change into my pajamas. Alex goes into the bathroom after me. I listen to Jessie J's song, "Burnin' Up" before I sleep. Alex and I sing along after we're ready to go to sleep. "I'm burnin' up, come and put me out!" we sing. Before we start singing the second verse, I hear a knock on the door. We pause the music and we check the peephole in the door. "Its...Val," I slowly say. "Ooh...maybe he's got somethin' to say to you, Ash!" she says in a lovey tone. I open the door. "Hi, Val!" I greet him. "Hey, Ash, oh and, hey Alex!" He says, and he smiles. "May I come in?" he asks. "Sure!""I got some news for you." He says, and he hands me a paper. I read it. It says:
School Opening Dance! We will serve food, drinks, and some snacks! A DJ will control the party's music! Hope you are there! Bring your friends, or dates! Teachers are welcome always, there will be alcohol for them!
Dance is on Friday, September 12th, 8:00-12:00 PM-AM!
"I'm so going..." I say. Val nods and he says, "I'm going too!" I smile, and joke, "Is it just for the alcohol?"
"No, it's something more." There it was again, that smirk of his. "Well, I gotta go do some errands 'round town. See ya tomorrow?" He said, and without Alex noticing, he slips a piece of paper into my hand. Then, Val left. When Alex was fast asleep, I read the piece of paper. It said:
My phone number is 908-298-7856. Call or facetime me on your iPhone sometime?
