CHAPTER 2
Stepped out of the sunshine into darkness. When my eyes adjusted I could see the layout. No sawdust on the floor and the spittoons were clean. The liquor shelves were well stocked, the mahogany table was highly polished, and the brass rail at the balcony gleamed. Realizing I was in my room, maybe I fell asleep after a little talk last night. That chocolate liquid from shop I drank has its own relaxation that makes me hit to sleep. Walked through my table when I saw the things on my mahogany worktop, it was the proofs I get from the Richardson's. Wonder if the sheriff knows that I'm going to investigate the case his dying to handle. Now most cops and especially detectives don't want private investigators sticking their noses where they don't belong. Crime is their business they say, and people like me should just stick to what I know and how I play, or the dirty work as they call it. Without a proper morning routine, I sit on my chair and look at the evidences I have. I don't see any suspicious activity taken on the photo with Copper on it. An urge came out on me and open the suitcase that the old man gave. I Frowned when I saw a gun, to estimate it is a John Moses Browning's Colt M1911A1 pistol made to replace weaker .38 caliber pistols used by the U.S. Army during the Philippine Insurrection. There is also an envelope and has a word 'FORBIDEN' engraved on it using a wax seal. Beneath that thing is some old newspapers released on different timelines. Confusion flows throughout my body and gives me chills.
"1720, 1820, 1920, 1948" as I read the dates imprinted on the old newsprints. I took my columnar to jot down the notes I found. I also open the envelope to know more, then suddenly, my hand starts to shake when my eyes caught a sequenced ordered photos of a familiar gentlemen of mine, I can't do anything but to clenched fist.
"why theses idiots commit this stupidity" angrily hissed as I slowly massage my forehead cause by confusion. Underneath each pictures are their names and addresses. Underneath are images of houses with the same timeline written as with the newspaper sort of pamphlet.
"A House in Westfield drive" taken during the year of 1720. I grab the newspaper with the same date as this stationary image.
A house in Westfield drive has achieved notoriety in the last years as a house not only "haunted", but also watched by someone with anonymity. The house was built in 1705 and never been remodeled. Various families inhabited the house throughout the times. Merely Old Dutch Colonial house described as a real estate dream, having 4 bedrooms, an elegant master suite, a simply waxed wood floors, and numerous fireplaces. Lawrence and Patricia Chase bought the newly remodeled home with high hopes in 1719, never expecting the bloodshed and fear that would ensue for a whopping $1.6 million.
"Chase?" repeating the word makes me shiver and gives me chills. I quickly grab my journal and write the information I've been discovered. "Lawrence Chase and Patricia Chase" seems like my great grandpa and grandma. I suddenly stop when I remember that my great grandparents are Friedrich and Dorothy Chase who starts our rum legacy. Seems like we have a long lost deceased relative. Getting my senses back, I pay my attention in finding any lead through this old references I have, printed in time of 1720.
Many hours passed my eye suddenly caught a hand-written hotline number, it seems an anonymous caller just like in the movie of Sherlock Holmes. I write all the information onto my journal deciding to continue searching for some information to my bunker. After getting myself fixed, wearing hoodie while the keys are at my hands I pulled my wheel to the road. as I drive, I wonder if the people mentioned in the old newspaper are connected to my family or to myself, but what connection do they have with the victim either to Richardson's. Wondering if there was any code hidden on those dates. What were those dates, what happened in those days? is there anything related to the past and at Copper's case. If they had any connection to young Richardson's case, what is the sudden urge of the antagonist to kill, but what is its reasons? They seem to be something that pushing inside my mind that the case I am holding and the hidden evidence is also connected to who I really am and what the Chase' are either what secret do my family have. What mystery is wrapped up under filthy murder. What a mystery lies hidden in the town of Realm. I can't believe that the once peaceful and populous town has something to hide. The sins of the past are still being paid by the people of the present.
