The figure smirked.
Hyunjin strained her eyes to catch a glimpse of the figure's face. Heejin? No way. Ever since she counseled her in high school, Heejin became a good egg. She did her homework, she studied well until... she was expelled.
Hearing the lecturer say, "Jeon Heejin, you're finally here for class." made Hyunjin think: did Heejin skip class frequently here?
Hyejoo nudged Hyunjin's elbow. "Oh my God, is it the Jeon Heejin?"
The figure put her hands in her trouser pockets and swaggered to the seats at the back (the lecture hall entrance was at the back so she basically walked a few steps to her seat). After stepping out of the light, Hyunjin could see Heejin's face clearly now. Her face got smaller and her jawline got sharper. She was wearing a Thrasher hoodie with a jacket over it with skinny jeans. Hyunjin was practically drooling over her.
"Sit here, Heejin!" A shrill voice said, causing Hyunjin to whip her head towards the direction of the voice.
A girl with dark brown (almost black) hair wearing a red off-shoulder top and a white skater skirt was waving Heejin over.
The lecturer hushed the girl. "Quiet, Lee Soojin. Let Heejin take her seat."
Hyunjin watched as Heejin went over to sit next to the Soojin girl and placed an arm on the backrest of her(Soojin) seat while propping her feet up on the seat in front of her.
After 2 hours of teaching and the lecturer's lame jokes, he dismissed the class. As the Yeondu students were walking up the stairs to the lecture hall's doors, Hyejoo ran up to Heejin and gave her a bone-crushing hug.
"Heejin, I missed you so much man." She hugged her tighter.
Heejin laughed and hugged her back. "Omg! I didn't know you guys were here. I thought there were just more students today."
She saw Hyunjin and Chaewon standing behind awkwardly.
She greeted Chaewon and went over to Hyunjin and slung an arm around her waist. "Hey baby~"
Without looking at her, Hyunjin said, "Hey,"
Heejin removed her arm from her waist and grabbed both of Hyunjin's hands. "Aren't you excited to see me, Hyun?"
"Who is she, Heej?" Soojin interrupted, raising an eyebrow at Hyunjin.
"Ah, she..." Heejin started, not knowing how to describe her relationship with Hyunjin. Were they good friends? Or were they considered as old flames? Hyunjin liked her, but did she like her back?
Three years ago at the airport when Hyunjin kissed her, she didn't really know how to feel. Yes, she felt her heart hammering in her chest but could that be due to a pretty girl kissing her?
"... She's an old friend." Heejin laughed awkwardly, scratching her head.
"Well, sorry but Heejin has to go now." Soojin scoffed and linked arms with Heejin.
"Hey Sooj, can we have some time alone?"
🎀♡🎀
"So... How are you?" Heejin asked leaning back onto the bench.
They were at their school's football field sitting on the bleachers and watching the varsity jocks train while talking.
"I'm great." Hyunjin shifted in her seat, not knowing what else to say. "By the way, who is Soojin?"
"Ah, she's a friend who likes me." Heejin flashed a lopsided smile that Hyunjin loves. "Oh yeah, what happened after I... got expelled?"
"Well, I managed to keep my title has head prefect and my student evaluation didn't get affected, which is great. And you know what? They even wrote more positive stuff in my student evaluation as an apology for wrongly suspecting me." Hyunjin smiled.
Heejin smiled and looked at her tenderly. "I'm glad I helped you."
Wait, "helped"?
Hyunjin turned her head slowly towards Heejin. "What do you mean by help?"
"I just said I was the one who broke into the school," Heejin said casually. "No biggie. At least you're safe." She muttered the last part.
Hyunjin couldn't believe her ears. All along she thought that Heejin felt bad for her and confessed to her wrong doings, but it turns out that she only confessed to get Hyunjin out of trouble.
Pulling Heejin into a hug, she whispered, "Thank you. I really appreciate it." And ended it with a quick peck on Heejin's lips.
Heejin touched her lips and smirked. "So you still liked me after all these years, huh?"
"Maybe." Hyunjin looked away from Heejin, a little habit that she has since high school when she is feeling shy. "Wait, do you know who was the one who broke into the school that night?"
Heejin chuckled and leaned back, crossing her right leg over her left. "Pfft, yeah. I already figured out who was it a long time ago."
Hyunjin sat up, excitement written all over her face. "Who did it, then?"
"I don't wanna tell you, that wouldn't be fun to the readers." Heejin smirked and lean forward, close enough to whisper to her.
"Look too close, and you won't see anything."
