Tears were instant to well in Laylah's eyes as she approached the small group where Angel stood, his mother in front of him fixing his tie. Derek walked behind her, chuckling softly as he placed a hand on her back. She tried to blink away her tears, not wanting to ruin her make up she'd spent the last hour doing. The grey jumpsuit billowed around her legs as the wind pushed against the fabric, brushing her curled hair from her shoulders.

'Aunty Laylah,' Angel called when he finally spotted her.

'Oh, look at you,' She pressed her fingers to her lips as she tried not to cry.

He limped toward her, his right ankle still a working progress with the arthritis that had grown there. She wrapped her arms around him, holding him tight as he now stood at the same height at herself in small heels.

'You look very handsome,' She held the side of his face as she studied his older features.

'Thank you,' He grinned; 'Hey, Derek.'

'Hey, man,' Derek hugged him; 'She's right. You look good.'

'Thank you.'

'Are you nervous? I know I was.'

'Yeh. I really am.'

'You'll be ok,' Laylah smiled; 'I think everyone gets a little nervous.'

He let out a shaky breath, 'Yeh.'

'Oh, I got you something.'

She turned to Derek who held the small present, taking it from him with a grateful smile before she turned to Angel again.

'What is it?' He asked.

'Take a look,' She nodded.

Laylah leant into Derek's side with hopeful eyes as she watched the boy open his gift, removing the lid from the small box. She grinned when his eyes widened, reading his body language to make sure his reaction wasn't going to be bad. Angel's eyes snapped up to meet hers, tears welling in them as he smiled. He threw his arms around her, sniffling as he tried not to cry.

'Stop, you're gonna make me cry,' She croaked.

'I love it,' He whispered; 'Thank you so much, Aunty Laylah.'

'You're very, very welcome.'

He released her, watching as she gently pried the small pin from the box. She removed the backing and grabbed a hold of the collar on his suit jacket, piercing the fabric with the silver angel wings pin.
