Emily blinked up at the lanky boy holding her up.

"I....I...." Emily attempted to speak, but her voice failed her. The boy looked down at her with a blank look on his face. He held up the 'damsel in distress' till she found the strength to stand up on her own.

"Thanks," Emily finally said, shakily, as she found her voice.

"No problem. Be careful next time." The boy responded, cooly, as if try had never seen each other. Emily recalled the similar words from a while ago, which he echoed again today. She ha a sudden urge to find out the boy's name. He radiated mystery and some danger. It intrigued her. The boy began to walk away.

"Wait!" Emily called after him. He slowly turned around, his face now angered. Was he bipolar? Emily thought.

"What's your name?" she shouted across the now large distance between them. She examined the boy's agitated, yet beautiful features. His angry look slowly wiped off of his face, and was soon replaced with a smirk that she had seen after their first run in. (A/N: pun not intended.)

"That's for me to know and for you to guess, sweetheart." He ever so slyly answered. Emily cringed at his pet name.

Realizing, that she wouldn't get her question answered, she began to walk away, hoping to be stopped by him. When no such thing happened, she huffed and continued walking towards her school.

The bell rang, indicating that lunch was over. Emily got up from her table and began to walk to English class, when she was stopped by Tom Falapo.

"Hey Emily!" He called after her.
"Yeah?" she asked, knowing that the popular boy wanted something.
"Are you going to my party tonight?" the raven haired boy with a mischievous smile asked her.

Emily began to play with her light brunette hair, a habit for when she was in an uncomfortable position.

"Uhhhhh, I don't know Tom. We have finals coming up soon, and I have to study and you know..." she trailed off.

Tom rolled his eyes.

"Oh c'mon! Finals are in two months, and its not like you need to get into college. You have a job set out for you. Please please please come to my party." Tom whined, pulling his expert puppy dog face, one he knew that Emily couldn't say no to.

Emily grew frustrated, and gave in.

"Fine! Jeez! I'll go! Stop pouting please!" She replied, scowling at the grinning boy.

"Yesssssss!" Tom fist pumped the air and smiled. "You'll have fun, don't worry!" he yelled over his shoulder, walking away to his next class.

Emily was getting ready for the party. She pulled out a navy blue dress with a sweetheart neckline from her closet.
Peeling out of her school clothing, she stepped into the dress and zipped up the silky material. She applied a bit of makeup and put on white pumps.

She didn't want to go to this party. She didn't want to have to pretend she was having fun all night. It was annoying.

She walked over to her jewelry box and pulled out a black stone ring. Her grandmother had given it to her a week before she was murdered. Don't lose faith in yourself and your abilities she had said. Emily wore it whenever possible. Her mother hated that ring because her grandmother had given it to Emily instead of her. Emily slipped the cool metal ring on her right middle finger. She took one last look in the mirror and headed out the door.
