"he screamed, SO loud," clay continues his story. i can't control my laughter, i've been laughing this whole time, my throat hurts, my stomach hurts, my lungs hurt, but it's all worth it to hear this story about his friend. "i heard sirens in my head! he screeches like a five year old girl," i cover my mouth as to not show the food in it. i have tears running down my cheeks, and my lips play a huge smile.

clay watches me choke on laughter, and chuckles himself, and i laugh even harder hearing him laugh.

"i can't breathe-" i laugh once i've swallowed my food. i make eye contact with him once i calm down. we stare. that's it. with a smile on both our faces. he starts to laugh again, which makes me laugh again. laughs are contagious. he starts wheezing, and i can't control the tears at the brim of my eyelid. "stop-" i wheeze with him. we're both a laughing fit, everyone in the restaurant is giving us a confused look, but we don't care.

i look down at my food, almost finished. i know i won't be able to finish it, and if i do take a bite, all i'm gonna do is start laughing again.

i hear a vibration coming from my purse. i open it and take my phone out, seeing my mom is calling. already? it's only been  50 minutes. "sorry, mom's calling." i say, he nods and quiets down. i answer the call and she's quick to say,

"y/n, i know it's your first date, but you need to come home."

"what? what happened?" i question her stern voice. clay's eyes quickly turn with concern.

"i can't explain right now, i'll tell you when you get here,"

"mom-" she hangs up.

i look at the phone with confusion.

"what's wrong?" clay asked.

"i don't know, she wants me to come home, like now." i sigh.

"oh," he looks down, "well it has been an hour." i nod with him.

"i'll pay," i take my purse and search for my wallet.

"no. i'm paying." he says, already taking his wallet out.

"no. me." i look at him.

"no,"

"yes."

"no,"

"yes,"

"yes,"

"no," he starts laughing, "wait!"
