We all have that person that you think you can trust. That person is the one you go to when you are breaking down and need some support or guidance. That person is also the one who you trust with some of your secrets that no one else may know about, besides yourself.
The problem is that sometimes that person that you trust is the very person who will betray you. They will go out of their way to rip you to shreds so that there is nothing left of you and nothing to put you back together again. They want to have power and power makes people do crazy things.
It was never clear how it started, but it came at you like a sudden thunderstorm. One moment there is not a single cloud in the sky and the next thing you know there are fat, angry, gray clouds hovering above you waiting to just burst open and bring on the rain.
Greatly confused, you wanted to know what you did, what went wrong and how you could fix what was broken. The problem was that they wanted nothing to do with you. Ignoring you and talking behind your back was their tactic. They wanted to make sure that you got hurt emotionally so that you would crumble into a pile of despair.
The issue there was that you would not have it. You turned around everything, going around and using the things you knew about them to hurt them. Somehow your influence over people was greater than theirs.
You were able to make sure their friends dwindled down to only a handful, making sure that they never spoke to anyone who you knew. They had their people and you had yours. It was best that way.
In the end they left, leaving you with the thrill of having the power now. Of course you also never expected them to come back one day and show their face to your peers ever again.
All along there were people who were neutral, not on your side or theirs. That was fine, but the way their faces lit up at the mention of them being in the general area cut you. It was cut that was slowly oozing blood, giving you time to stop the bleeding, but you did nothing.
In a state of shock and anger you were like a zombie. The motions were ones that you went through every day. Go here and there, talk to this person and that person, smile and put on a brave face. The one thing was to show that you were not weak. Show that you were strong and would not let their presence make the cut deeper.
At some point they left, leaving you with a bitter taste in your mouth. After all of that time they show up and still leave the place without uttering a single word to anyone why they started to create a living hell for you until you turned about and made the place their version of hell.
There will always be that missing piece of the puzzle that you will never be able to find. Honestly, you don't care. Going back and having the friendship you had before is not possible. Too many harsh words were spoken to even say the word sorry to them again.
Even so, you have the memory of you being the better person, the one who had more power at the end, for you said your initial apologizes and left the ball in their court. It was up to them to make the next move and place the ball in your court once more, but they never did. That was their fault and not yours and you hold onto that fact only to know that you can use it against them in case anyone ever crosses a line and says that you were the weak one.
No one wants to be weak - especially you. End of story.
