Chapter one: Love burns.

He was my best friend... was. That's all I ever was to him. Of course, I loved being his best friend, but I loved him more than a best friend. I knew the consequences if I told him that I've loved him since seventh grade. I knew the consequences if I told him that I want him to be mine... but I did it anyways. The hell was I thinking? I already knew he liked her. He's talked about her so many times that I've lost count. So many times that it's one of our daily topics to talk about. Ah, sorry... let's start from the beginning shall we?

My name is Lucy Heartfilia, the boy I've been talking about is named Natsu Dragneel. Today was the day I confessed... the day I lose my best friend. My girl best friend, Levy, has been nagging me to do it since she found out in seventh grade... we're seniors in high school now. Yeah... it's been a while.

"Oi! Luce!" I hear Natsu call from behind me.

"Hey! I was actually looking for you. Could you meet me at my house after your basketball practice?" I asked.

He gave me a toothy grin, "Yeah, you're not gonna watch me practice?"

I sighed, "I have homework to do flamebrain."

He rolled his eyes. Just then, the school bell rang indicating that lunch was over. 'Today is gonna be a long, not to mention nerve racking, day.' I thought.

I was at my locker when someone came behind me and covered my eyes, "Guess who~" the voice cooed.

I sighed, "Hey Loke, whats up?" I ask my cousin. Yes, I'm cousins with the school's number one playboy.

"Okay, if you're gonna ask me for love advice, you better bring me the food Virgo makes for lunch for a week," he bargained.

I turned around and gave him my puppy dog eyes, "Can't I go to my older cousin, who I trust with my life, for advice without something in return."

He hesitated for a moment, but gave in, "Fine. Tell him how you truly feel. If he doesn't feel the same then he doesn't deserve you. Not to mention I'll beat him to a pulp."

"Thanks, this is why you're my favorite cousin."

"What about Aqua—"

"Shh! The mention of her name scares me!" I say.

It was 5:30, Natsu and I were in my room watching "Miraculous Ladybug". Just then I paused the show.

"Natsu," I sternly say, "I have to tell you something important."

"Really? Me too! You go first," he says.

"How about we say it at the same time?" I suggest.

"Okay, sure."

God, I'm going to regret this.

It's not too late to make something up

"I love you!"

"I asked Lisanna out!" We both said at the same time.

"Wait... you what Luce?" He asks, you can see the panic in his eyes. 'MAKE SOMETHING UP LUCY.' I tell myself.

"Hmm? Oh! I love you like a brother, you've been there for me since elementary and I wanted to say thank you. Now, SPILL THE TEA," I played it off. Thankfully he bought it. He talked about how it happened in very great detail. It hurt.

Ever since that day he stopped hanging out with me and hung out with Lisanna and her friends. I hung out with Juvia, Erza, Mira, Levy, Yukino, Kagura, and Wendy. It was weird at first, but we grew to be best friends. Sisters. And that's how it all began...

Losing one thing, but gaining another.
