It first appeared when he was backstage at the KBS award show, looking into dressing rooms in search of Sungjae - he had only wanted to say hi. Before this, the members had been getting ready to perform Danger and the stylist noona had sent Namjoon-hyung to call him back into the dressing room.
Just as he passed by the door labelled GOT7, his ears pricked up at the sound of his hyung's voice that reached high above the clamour. A small pang of disappointment hit him, but he nodded dutifully and turned around.
He was about to head back down the noisy corridor when he felt it.
It was soft and thin and laced itself around his finger.
He looked down.
It was a single cord of red string.
It seemed to wind tirelessly around his left pinky, with no knot and no end in sight.
Curious, and a little confused, his eyes trailed along the line. He followed the way it twirled around his finger and pooled a little onto the tile by his shoe. Then, it twisted to glide easily down the rowdy hallway.
Taehyung followed it with his eyes.
The hallway was filled with managers and stylists and idols and production staff. Each of them headed in another direction as they pushed and called after one another in shrill tones.
Yet, miraculously, the red string travelled effortlessly past them. It laced itself between their legs, loose and curving. It was nimble - carefully avoiding the soles of a heavy heels.
He followed it until it disappeared into the crowd.
Taehyung stood still and marvelled at the sight.
"Taehyung-ah!" Namjoon yelled.
The anticipation of their performance delivered a shot of adrenaline into his veins.
Taehyung shook the red string out of his head and hastily eased it off his finger. It seemed to slip off obediently, making no effort to resist. So, Taehyung jogged away - heeding Namjoon's call.
An hour or two later, all was proceeding swimmingly. They had already finished their performance as one of the opening acts and were given the luxury of sitting back and enjoying the rest of the night. Taehyung had relaxed into his chair and took a sip of water moments before the stage went dark.
He peered into nothingness.
Then wracked his brains in an attempt to recall who was supposed to be next.
And then a grand tune started up.
And a chorus of voices whispered a coy greeting at the piano man.
Taehyung almost spewed his water in every direction. A wide grin spread across his face. He loved this song.
Diverting his attention to the screen, Taehyung watched as four women - two in suits and two in flamboyant feather skirts took to the stage. He was beyond ready to get hyped up.
As they belted out a jazzy serenade, Taehyung clapped his hands to the beat while mimicking his favorite parts of the choreography.
Transitioning into the second half of the song, the four performers made their way across the stage.
