August
2 Days Before Christmas
I woke up with Missy laying on my chest still, but I had to smoothly get up to hide the gift I got her. She probably didn't expect me to get her anything, since I'm not the wealthiest person in the world, but I still felt like had to. She's done so much for me since she's known me, which hasn't been too long, but long enough for us to create a bond with each other. I wanted to show her that I do appreciate all that she's done, in gift form though.
I scraped up a little over $200 for her gift. I bought her a 14K gold heart locket. It had a rose on one half of the heart, which I thought she would love. I was going to put one of the pictures we took the first night we met each other inside of it. I wanted to use one of those pictures instead of a recent one because I wanted her to know that I've been appreciative of her before we got together. I wanted her to know that I valued her friendship.
In my attempt to slide out the bed, Missy started to move around, but she didn't wake up. I knew I had to get this locket somewhere safe before she could find it. I had it in a rectangular velvet box. I went to the top shelf of the closet and pushed the box all the way to the back, towards the wall. I knew she wouldn't find it there because she never goes in my closet and I know that her little ass can't reach, or even see up there.
9:00 P.M.
Missy, Miss Tina, and I were all working together on this Christmas tree. It was looking nice, but we put it up so late. "Ma, how come we putting the tree up right before Christmas?" Missy stole the my thoughts and voiced them. "Because dammit, I wanted both of my babies to help me put the tree up." I noticed she said both of her babies. "Aww ma, August ya baby too now?" Missy asked her mom being silly. "Hell yeah, I'm thinking about getting rid of you and just keeping August."
After clowning on Missy for a while, we finally got to finishing the tree. We just needed to add the star. "August, since it's your first Christmas with us, you should do the honor of adding the star?" says Missy. I took the star from her, chuckling at her choice of words. She spoke like I was winning an award or something. I put the star on the tree and noticed Missy was standing beside me with her lips puckered, asking for a kiss. I kissed her lips and turned around to see her mother staring at us the whole time.
"You know, y'all young asses ain't gonna sit up here boo loving in front of my face. I don't need no stressful ass grandkids yet." Miss Tina ranted. She was acting like we were just making out. "Chill Mama T," I said calling her by the name I gave her, "we got this. You don't have to worry about any grandkids right now." I reassured her. On the inside, she did have to worry a little. With the way Missy and I go at it, you wouldn't know what to expect, other than babies, but I know that it's definitely not the right time for any of that.
I noticed Missy had walked off in the middle of us talking. I don't know if she was feeling some type of way about the conversation, or she just wanted to be in the room, but she disappeared so fast. I went into the room to find her bundled up under the comforter. She looked so comfortable. I just wanted to get in there with her. I took everything off except my boxers. "Move over." I whispered to her, which she did. I put my arms around her as we lay in the bed together. I kissed her temple, but she didn't really say anything, she just turned around and kissed my lips.
"What's going through your mind baybeh?" I questioned with concern. Last time she was silent like this, she basically had an emotional break down in the bath tub. "I was just thinking about when you have to go to Atlanta. Where are you going to stay?" that was random, but I guess she was concerned for me too. "They said they would pay for a place for me to live. It's a house, in a nice neighborhood." I informed. She just nodded, like she had something on her mind, but wouldn't say it.
"You know I hate when you hold ya thoughts back from me?" I rhetorically asked. She nodded once again, this time she spoke along with it. "I just want you to be okay. I'm glad we'll be closer, but I feel like we might drift apart." she said. I scrunched my face up in confusion. "You know how we talk to each other every day and night, and then when we see each other, we're in pure joy. What if it's not like that once you move to Atlanta? You know how they say absence makes the heart grow fonder? What if that all stops once you move?" She made me think when she put it like that. I see why she would wonder, but she had nothing to worry about.
"I promise you I won't dismiss you, we'll still talk like we do now. I mean, most likely it'll be less time spent on the phone and more time spent with each other, but regardless of how far or close we are, I'ma still be the same ole' August, and that ain't gon' change." I told her. She smiled and pecked my lips. Just to make her laugh, I decided to leave wet kisses all over her face. I knew I could cheer her up, I just wanted to hear her laugh.
