Chapter 5

I dipped the cloth back into the soapy water before squeezing it dry and wiping these dirty tables. People often did not notice how much mess they make while they drink and eat here.

Sadly, it's my job to clean after these horrible messy people. It just struck 9.30 and it was closing time. Ameil called out last call while ringing the bell. The cafe was deserted by now and there were barely five people left. Ameil started to pack up too. I was on table cleaning duty and he got packing up in the kitchen.

“Eh, do you want anything to eat? There are some ingredients left. We can make an amazing sandwich, I swear." I heard Ameil scream from the kitchen.

“Okay, sure. I'm almost done!" I wiped the last table and threw away the collected mess of crumbs.

.

I dumped that disgusting cloth back in the bucket, before carrying it back to the storage closet near the kitchen.  Walking back into the kitchen, I saw the weirdest thing ever.

Ameil was on one foot, kneeled down; almost proposing. His blue eyes stared at the most humongous sandwich, I have ever seen in my life. The bread was almost tearing off the seam due to the amount of things stuffed into it.

“What in the world are you doing?" I broke the horribly weird moment being shared between Ameil and this sandwich.

“Raelynn, you have to keep quiet, This is important. This sandwich is the greatest thing ever created by man. Look at it." He got up and pulled me over to the sandwich.

“Yes, I see it, Ameil. It’s just a sandwich.”

“It’s not just a sandwich. How dare you say that? It is the best possible sandwich in the world. It has one of each of the best possible ingredients: salami, roast chicken, sliced ham. Just wait.” He took one of the sharp kitchen knives and sliced the footlong sandwich into two equal pieces, To be honest, it looked a little unappealing. He picked the humongous thing up and placed it on two different plates, then handed it over to me.

The sandwich was intimidating but somewhere deep deep down, I did really want to try it. His anxious eyes watched me take a bite of the sandwich. It wasn’t bad at all. It had a mixture of tastes though. It tasted like a cheeseburger smoothly mixed into a pepperoni pizza with a tinch of pickle and ranch at the back of your tongue. It was simply good. I smiled taking another bite before taking a third.

“I told you it would be amazing.” Ameil grinned at me before taking a bite, the size of half the sandwich itself. Once we finished eating, I took the rag once again to clean the kitchen top before taking my apron off.

“Ameil? You, there?” I called out. He went to put the board games, played by customers, back onto the shelves in the cafe. He did not respond and that kind of freaked me out. It was almost eight in the night and it was really dark outside and let me remind you that the cafe did look like it was in the middle of nowhere.
