James was confused whether he should wear a black suit or a blue one, as he couldn't afford to look bad that night. It was the office party, and he was to receive a special award from the news agency president that night for exemplary performance in journalism for the interview he had taken a month ago. His article, titled 'Forgotten Father' was a phenomenal success for a side project, even more successful than any of the main projects the agency ever did. The interview elevated his channel's popularity and revitalized his career. The once confident and fearless journalist was back again. This time, he was grateful to the good old David Jones for saving his life.
A few hours later, James was posing with the trophy for a photograph when his boss called him from the side and requested James' guests some moments with him. When both were alone, he said, "Congratulations for the award, James. That sure was an article. The President wants to give you a promotion, as he says you deserve it. And frankly, I don't disagree."
"Thank you sir." He replied.
"I heard that you promised to find the son of your interviewee Mr. David Jones, but you failed to track him and later agreed to take custody of the old man from the old age home two weeks ago, and he has been living with you and your family ever since. Your reasons were that he reminded you of your late father, and that him staying with you will be good for both you and him."
"Yes sir," replied Jones, "That is true."
"I don't understand. When I said you had to go interview someone from an old age home, you said you knew someone. You straightaway went to him and interviewed him. You half-heartedly searched for his son, and that too for just one day, and then you formally took custody of him."
"Yes sir."
"Well, I must then say that you either have a heart of gold, or you know him or that estranged son he talked about."
"Sir," replied Jones in a dead serious tone, "I am that estranged son he talked about."
