There was a voice, thought Taryl. Whose voice was it?
Her body felt warm and relaxed. She had no tension in her muscles, and she felt no pain at all. Taryl felt at peace wherever she was.
There was a light that rested on her eyelids, and it soon began to bother the young shifter. She stirred in her space.
"Taryl," she heard a voice whisper.
Iris?
Taryl opened her eyes to see what it could be. The young shifter began to look around, but she saw nothing but darkness. If it were so dark, then where did that light come from?
Suddenly, Taryl heard a voice echo from the distance as she laid there in the darkness; it was the same voice from before.
"Taryl!" the voice called, only now it was louder and more frantic. The voice became clearer, but Taryl barely recognized the voice, concluding that it did not belong to Iris. All she did know was that it belonged to a woman.
The young shifter heard a groan behind her. Taryl sat up and turned her body to see the young man from the arena; that young man was Victor. Taryl got on her hands and knees, and she crawled the short distance to get to the man's side.
"Taryl!" the woman cried again.
"Mom..." Victor mumbled.
Taryl looked at the young man with surprise. The woman's voice, which was calling her name, was the voice this man recognized to be his mother.
"That's my baby!" the woman started to scream. "You can't take my baby!"
Taryl turned to the darkness in surprise. From the darkness came a light. Taryl's eyes narrowed as to see the light more clearly; the light appeared to be moving closer.
"That's my baby!"
"Mom..." Victor mumbled again.
"Taryl!"
"I'll find her," said Victor, "I promise."
The light suddenly vanished, only to reappear right in front of Taryl and Victor. The sudden move of the light startled Taryl, and a shaky breath fell from her lips. The light became clear, and Taryl saw that it was a small golden flake.
"You can't take my baby!" screamed the woman again, and as she screamed the light of the flake grew brighter.
"Taryl!" Victor suddenly screamed, and he threw his arm up. His hand hit the golden flake, and immediately after the hit, the flake exploded. More than one million golden flakes dispersed from the original, and as it did, Victor woke up.
Taryl turned to the young man in disbelief as the flakes continued to spread around them. Victor only stared back at Taryl with the same look.
The two shifters turned their heads outwards to watch as the golden flakes gathered together in clusters. Those multiple clusters then flew out in their own different directions before they began to build a setting. Taryl turned to look at the one flake in front of them only to watch it slowly morph into a person.
As the flake was morphing, Taryl's head fell to see a line of shining gold rush past as it created a road. She looked back up and noticed a house being made just behind the person. Two more flakes then flew to the door of the house, and those two also began to morph into people; however, one flake transformed into a tall male, while the other became a baby in the man's arms. Finally, the flake in front of Taryl and Victor became a woman.
The woman was in a frozen state, as were the man and baby. The woman appeared to have been screaming, while tears stained her cheeks.
Taryl turned her head, and she saw a van in the distance behind her. She only wondered what the people in the van had done. Taryl slowly rose to her feet, and she approached the young woman. The shifter reached out her hand to touch the woman. But Taryl's hand passed straight through the woman's body just when her hand was supposed to touch the woman's shoulder.
