The idea common among young Muslims today to confess their sins is a Christian concept, and alien to Islam. From the earliest days, Islam has taught us to keep our sins private between ourselves and Allah, for the following reasons:
.
1) Someone else knowing that you committed a specific sin can lead to an encouragement for them to commit the same sins (especially if they look up to you)
2) It brings dishonour to you and the Deen
3) There is no benefit in it
4) Only Allah can forgive your sins, so why tell anybody else about them?

There is no concept of confession in Islam. Nobody needs to know about your sins except Allah. Not your spouse, your parents, your Shaykh, your mentor or your friends. Keep them hidden and conceal the sins of others too. This is to prevent immorality from spreading in society.

The only exception to this rule would be if you need professional assistance in giving up a sinful addiction. In this case, it would be permissible to seek assistance from a Shaykh or counselor who can guide you along the path of recovery.
