"good morning," minho said, sitting in front of a man whose face hadn't aged a bit since the last time they'd spoken. "i believe you have the missing spike to my crown?"

chan's jaw dropped.

"min... minho?"

the man in question held his hand out expectantly. "yes, shrek. may i have my spike back, shrek?"

chan's fingers tightened around it as he remained in shock by the sight before his eyes. "you're really here?"

"yes, i'm really here. are you going blind?"

offended, chan pouted. he and minho subconsciously fell back into the easy rhythm they had, each pinging off the other to make their conversation grow and thrive. "why, isn't that just the rudest question you can ask an old man? i'm offended."

"just hand me the goddamn spike."

"what if i don't want to?"

"i'll kiss you, m'sir; i just don't want to argue. simply give me my spike so i can go along on my merry way and stop bothering you."

"no."

minho stood up and leaned over the table, groaning slightly as his bones protested the action. "you asked for it, then."

despite their old age, both men had a fire in them that they unleashed into their first kiss in nearly half a century. neither had stopped loving the other, despite their messy breakup.

minho poured his regret into their shared moment, while chan simply needed the old, familiar contact.

when they pulled away, breathless, minho sat back down as if nothing had happened. with a smirk gracing his slightly swollen lips, he spoke.

"so, shrek, do you plan on returning that spike? and maybe being the sir liberty to my lady liberty?"

chan smiled, a little dazed by the fast-paced events of the suddenly-atypical morning.

"i've always been your sir liberty, m'lady. and i always will be."
