Chapter 5: The puzzling acts

Mr. Clinton went to the address he received. He was thrilled to see that,there were no one around the building. He heard a voice of a man behind him. Before he could turn around,the man hit him with an axe. He left Mr. Clinton on the ground and made the vultures and eagles to have a feast. After a day of Mr. Clinton's disappearance, Mr. Henry predicted that he was killed. He was unable to utter a word about his death to the Inspector. "Mr. Clinton is missing. I have sent a team to hunt him down. Mr. Warner Cassidy will be taking over Mr. Clinton's place.",ordered the Inspector.

"Inspector. Inspector",Ferris shouted as he saw him near his house driving his jeep. Inspector put a halt. He got out of his jeep and said "Hey,young man. What's up?" "Sir. I've heard about Mr. Clinton's disappearance. I happened to see him around 4.30 pm near Seapawn heights yesterday ",reported Ferris. "That's a worthy information. Thank you so much Ferris,we will look into it", the Inspector smiled and patted his shoulder. "If you are willing to help us find him, you are always welcome Ferris." "Sure sir. I will."

"Ah.. Mrs. Beatrice Mc farlane,do you know your secret boyfriend Mr. Trey Coleman?" asked the Inspector. "He was my close friend sir." "Close friends who used to be fooling around the town,huh?"chuckled Warner. "Don't you dare to assassinate my character officer",she told. "Warner please be outside for a minute. I'm sorry for that mam. Mam,please provide us with some information. What's your relationship with Mr. Trey?" "I'm pregnant with my husband's child. But he developed an affair with some woman in West Peamug and he has settled there with her. He completely abandoned me without giving me a legal divorce. Mr. Trey was my brother's best friend.We used to date when we were in high school. He helped me with my pregnancy and slowly we found ourselves attracted",she explained. "Who is the woman he is living with?" "Woman named Lisa." "Was her ex-husband by any chance is dead? " "Yeah. My husband had told me recently. I've filed a divorce a month ago. He told that he was unable to come as Lisa's husband was murdered." Inspector was frozen for a minute. Lisa is none other than Robert's ex wife who is in a relationship with Beatrice's husband. He started to connect the dots and knitted a theory in his mind. "Do you know something about Mrs. Trey?" "She was the worst nightmare for my Trey. He used to tell me how cunning his wife was. They even had a girl child. But right after she was born, Mr. Trey gave the baby to someone for them to adopt. He convinced her telling that the child was dead. He didn't want his little one to taste her venomous milk. She must be 22 now,I guess." The inspector now started to suspect Mrs. Trey. He checked Mrs. Beatrice's alibi. It was perfect like Ferris's.

The Criminal Investigation Department of United Kingdom had arranged a meeting with Inspector Drake Williams and his team at Seapawn heights. It was the police head quarters of Sawsley Bay. "Double murder and a missing constable. What is happening Mr. Drake?"asked the Deputy Commissioner. "We are on process sir. One of my teams is looking for Mr. Clinton. The team is disposing its duty at its best sir." " If the case does not give any progress within the next 48 hours,Detective Superintendent Paul Hughes and his team will be in charge of the case and you are supposed to assist them",order the DC.

"How well do you know Mr. Trey Coleman? " asked the Inspector. "I don't know him personally,but the land in which the café is built was mine,I sold him. A friend of Mr. Trey suggested him to buy the land from me. I was not in touch after that. Once in a blue moon,I would drop by to have a cup of coffee"told Philip. "Who told you that he was interested in buying a land?" "Thea is a famous real estate agent and she was his friend. " "Well. Thank you."The Inspector checked his alibi which was more perfect.

"The three main suspects" the Inspector told as he pinned their photographs on the board. "We know nothing about Ms. Thea until she arrives here with her lawyer. But her alibi is clear. Mrs. Beatrice had a dark past. Her ex-husband and our Robert's ex-wife are building an affair. She even quoted about Mrs. Coleman. We need to interrogate Ms.Lisa, her love and Mrs. Coleman too. I can trust Philip. He doesn't have a motive to kill them. He is an eminent businessman. Why would he kill a local café owner and a man who worked under him.

"Good evening Inspector Drake Williams. Sorry for the delay. I am Mrs. Thea Allen's lawyer,Chelsea Briggs. What is the matter Inspector? "We are interrogating the people related to Mr. Trey." "What do you want to know from my client? And I'll be representing her. So whatever it is,you may ask me in her presence here." "We just wanted to know the answers for 3 questions. Number one: How well Ms. Thea knew Mr. Trey? Number two: Is there anything she knew about Mrs. Trey? Number three: Where was she on 18th December and 20th December?

My client Mrs. Thea and Mr. Trey were good pals. Her mother is living here in Sawsley Bay. She spends her time with her during weekends. She used to visit his café every Friday for a quick bite. Mr. Trey even recommended many students to join my client's French classes. That's how they knew each other.

"I'll answer your second question. I don't know Mrs. Trey well. I once went to his place with my daughter on her birthday to offer him few chocolates and cookies. Mrs. Trey didn't welcome us with a proper gesture. She was staring at my daughter for so long. I felt weird and left his house in 10 minutes. " Thea told. "18th December was a Thursday, I was busy doing my research work in the lab. You may even check with Dr. Livingtrop Mc Connell,he is the lab scientist there. And on 20th December I was here in Sawsley Bay with my mother and daughter. Later that day, I was with Mr. Philip Banks for an official meeting at a restaurant." "Well. Fine. We will look into it. Thank you so much for your co operation Mrs. Thea and Mrs. Chelsea" the Inspector thanked them and walked them out.

"Warner,being so perfect is also a way to hide their illegal activities. Don't you think so?" "Indeed sir. Everyone in this case are having an affair with the spouses of the people involved in the case",chuckled Warner.
