16: Playball!

"Wow. The benches are full," Natsu commented as he roamed his eyes around.

It's the fourth day of the Grand Sports Festival. Yesterday, the Lamia Scale won against the Quatro Cerberus in their Soccer match with the score of 3-2. I honestly thought that they wouldn't win because they couldn't even get a goal of the Cerberus' goalkeeper, Bacchus, on the first half. But their score had suddenly skyrocketed on the second half.

While the Blue Pegasus lost against the Sabertooth in their Basketball game. The Tigers had 83 points while the Pegasus only had 71 points. Three consecutive three point shot of Rufus, Tiger's team captain, widened the score gap. The Pegasus tried to keep up but sadly, they couldn't make it.

It was an intense matches, really. Though I didn't enjoy it that much because Natsu kept on doing annoying things. He couldn't do anything better than to sleep and drool on my shoulder. If he couldn't sleep, instead of watching the game, he would just stare at me the whole time!

"Natsu! Lu-chan!"

We looked at our left side, and saw our friends sitting there with popcorns on their hands, as if they're just watching a movie. Natsu held my hand and dragged me towards them.

"You're late," Gajeel greeted, staring at our hands.

"It's Lucy's fault," Natsu replied and sat on the bench. He tapped his left side, looking up to me. "Sit."

Tch. Why does it sounds like I'm a pet?! And did he really blame me about us being late?! He's the one who was sleeping like a log in my apartment!

I rolled my eyes and sat next to him. He's on my right while Levy's on my left side. She offered us a popcorn.

"Thanks!"

"What's the score?"

We looked at the score board. It's already 5th inning with the score of 3-1, in favor of Lamia Scale. And it's already bottom of the 5th, with our team on defense.

"What is Gray doing?!"

"Shut up, Salamander. He's still in the bullpen."

We both looked at Gajeel with furrowed eyebrows. "What? Why's that? I thought he'd be the one to start their game?"

"I don't know..."

"OHH! It went pass through the second baseman!" The commentator caught our attention, making us to focus on the field. The opponent's batter reached the first base after sending a hit on the center field. "With this, it's no out, runner on first! Will the Faries be able to stop the momentum of the Lamias?!"

"Damn! They have a runner, Gajeel!" Natsu exclaimed.

"And what's more, it's top of the order. The opponent's clean-up crew is up."

We're on a disadvantage. But it's only fifth inning and the score gap isn't that wide. Still, with our pitcher's missing control, I doubt he'd manage to keep the Lamias down. Factors such as too much heat from the sun, fatigue, and pitches count reaching its limit are probably what influenced his losing control the most.

And our team's coach finally made a move, calling for a time-out. The infielders ran towards the current pitcher on the mound. Then seconds after, we heard the announcement that everyone had been waiting for...

"The Fairy Tail University is making a substitution. Fullbuster will take the mound." The whole place filled with cheers and shouts. "Pitcher, Fullbuster."

The cheers and shouts of the audience thundered more the moment Gray went out of the bullpen and stood on the mound, with his chin up and proud smirk.
