"Is she even awake?" Mrs. Hope asked as I followed behind Kendall, about 20 minutes after.
"I don't think so, not really. She fell asleep in, um, Mare's stall," I explained, not knowing if Kendall had decided her name yet.
"Mare?" Mr. Hope asked.
"She doesn't see the name Passion fitting for her, so she's calling her Mare until she figures out a name." I failed miserabley in trying to make that sound as intelligent as possible.
"Alrighty then," Mr. Hope took a drink of what I assumed was probably juice. "What'd you do today, Son?"
"I took Missy out to the Creek trail per Kendall's request and then when I got back I strpped Missy's stall."
"Good, good. How was she? Missy I mean."
"She was an angel. I think you should consider buying her from the Jackson's,"
"I've been thinking about it. I feel like we'd have to get a gelding however, to seperate the two Mares."
"Will, I know someone who's giving away a dashing young paint gelding," Mrs. Hope trailed off into a description. He sounded like a fine horse, but I didn't stay around to chat long.
On my way to my room, I checked in on Kendall. I noticed a small slip of paper tucked into a picture of her and Prince at the previous year's fair, holding up a large blue rossete. The paper read, "Dakota"
"That's her name. My little baby Cody," Kendall smiled, only half awake.
"It's lovely." I kissed her forehead and gently closed her door, soft snores following me. Cody, what a fitting name for a horse that seemed like a stranger to the world.
