Maraji

Chapter 4

It looked out of place and she dismissed it and was about to turn around and head back to the castle and tell the guards to deal with it when she heard the loud wailing cry of a baby.

It was unlike any cry she has ever heard before. it was so beautiful and full of strength. She moved towards the sound as though under a spell. she was so transfixed with the pure raw power that was drawing her on that she almost got sighted by a man. He looked to be around his early thirties and he is probably the father of the baby. she watched him hurry out of the hut and held her breath. she made up her mind to move from her spot when she saw him hurrying back with more water in a basin and towels. she crept after him and was amazed at the baby swaddled in a shawl and still wailing in her mother's arm.

the baby looked so beautiful that it almost hurt to watch. she wondered briefly why they were residing so deep in the forest. if not for the power pulling her and the power she has. she probably would have never located the hut. she decided the baby was too beautiful to be hurt and the family seems to be having a beautiful private moment and decided to let them be. she had turned back when something caught the corner of her eyes.

she swung back sharply to find the baby staring directly at her. her innocent eyes seemed to peer deep into her soul. she jolted back with a shock when she saw a teardrop from her eyes brimming with tears and turned into gold dust right in front of her. 

she finally realized this was the baby the seer was talking about. the little one that would have more power than can ever be imagined. the one who poses a threat to her.

anger well up inside her as uncertainty reared its ugly head in her chest. the only option she could come up with was to kill the baby while she is still small and vulnerable.

she stepped back and willed her magic up in her chest. she was not a queen for nothing.

"i should be able to kill her with a simple spell, her parents will be dealt with later" she thought with deep annoyance.

she felt the power welling up in her mind and she directed the force towards thr baby. she waited for a heartbeat but nothing happened. she increased her focus and intensity but still nothing. by then the baby had stopped crying and has its attention focused on her. she was shaking with the exertion and was almost exhausted but still nothing happened. 

she can do nothing to the baby or her parents she realized.

she managed to cast a teleportation spell back to the palace. she yelled out immediately she got in.

"call the seer for me" she ordered the maid nearest to her.

"i'm right here, i've been waiting for you, you felt the power too?" the seer said beside her.

"yes! though i am outraged to  say this. i tried to kill the baby but i was not able to. my power seemed to have no effect on her and the parents"

"yes, she is too powerful to be killed by you but you can do something to her mother and take her place till the baby comes of age"

"you mean i have to leave the palace and take her mother's place?" she shrieked.
