4. table read

the network green lighted the show so they could finally start working on the pilot episode of the show. the whole cast had to fly back to charleston. baylen had been talking to madison, who plays kiara, and they decided that they share an apartment. they met at the chemistry read and got along really well.

rudy and chase were also moving into an apartment together. jonathan, drew and austin were all sharing an apartment as well.

the initial filming of the show was supposed to be in wilmington, but because of their transgender laws, it was moved to charleston. most of the show was being shot on location rather than in a soundstage.

since outer banks is supposed to be a netflix original, they don't have to shoot the pilot episode to be reviewed so they can immediately start the production of the show.

today, there is a table read so the creative team can see how it plays out, and if any of the dialogue needs changed. the initial table read is always intimidating and a little awkward, so no one was really looking forward to today. most of the cast are moving into their apartments tomorrow.

baylen had gotten starbucks for the whole team before heading to set. jonas wanted it to be a chill table read so they were just going to have the read at john b's house, or beach shack, as jonas referred to it as. 

baylen pulled into the little parking lot, turning the engine off. after getting out, she tried to grab the three starbucks carriers, but there was no way she'd be able to carry them all and her bag. she huffed out, turning around, seeing chase.

"hey, chase, can you help me carry these in?" she asked him with a little laugh.

"for sure." he said, shooting her a smile. he walked over to her, grabbing two of the drink carriers off the front seat of the car.

"thanks." she smiled, grabbing the last one and following him into the house.

"no problem, baylen." he said.

"there you two are!" jonas said when they walked in.

"good morning. we brought coffee!" baylen said, everyone thanking them.

"okay guys, today is going to be a pretty chill day. i know most of you are moving into your apartments tomorrow so i'm going to go easy on you. we're just going to do a table read of the pilot episode today. we can adjust the script as we go. so, go ahead and find a seat. jonathan, you can start when your ready." jonas announced to them.

baylen sat down on the couch, in between rudy and madison. chase sat on the floor, next to austin. jonathan has the opening line of the show, excluding john b's voice over so everyone listened intently to 'the pogues' as they started reading through the first scene.

the first bit of the show is mainly voice overs so there was minimal scenes to read through at the beginning.

after two hours, they had finished the read through, and jonas adjusted the script a bit. by the end, it wasn't so awkward anymore.

"we should go out for dinner." rudy suggested. "ya know, to bond and shit before we start filming." he laughed.

"that sounds good to me." madison smiled.

"i'm down." baylen said, standing up from the couch.

so, they decided to go for food at magnolias. it was a little restaurant in charleston. obviously, not many of the cast have cars in north carolina, since most of them live in LA, but baylen has a car here.

"do you want me to drive?" chase asked baylen. the seven of them were all piling into her 5 seat car.

"would you?" she asked, laughing.  she knew it'd be chaotic and hard to focus on driving with that many people in the car.

"yeah." he laughed as she tossed him the keys. rudy and austin both sat in the very back of the car, where there arent any seats. jonathan, madison and drew all sat in the middle seat. chase drove, and baylen was riding shot gun.

"where are you from?" she asked chase, ignoring the fact that she could barely hear since the rest of them were being loud in the back. baylen could tell this is going to be a fun project to work on. the cast already seemed so great.

"i'm from maryland, but i moved to LA a few years ago. where are you from?" he asked her.

"i was born here, in charleston. i moved to new york when i was 18, for school. then, i wanted to get more serious about acting, so i moved to LA at 20." she told him.

"what'd you go to school for?" he asked.

"film production... i'm a dropout." she laughed.

"you didn't finish?" he asked her.

"no, i realized i'd be happier acting than going to school. i had run out of unexcused absences at school... i was in the originals series and had a small role in stranger things so i was always busy with that. i wanted to continue through with it, but i knew i'd be so much happier doing what i'm doing now." she told him.

"not to change the subject..." he laughed. "stranger things was my first role. it was very, very brief." he told her.

the rest of the short car ride, they all just goofed around. and over dinner, they bonded and really got to know each other. they were all really excited to be working on such a fun project together.
