A heavy sense of disappointment settled into Sadie’s stomach as she became aware of waking. She’d had the most wonderful dream that she’d been rescued and taken from the prison only to discover that she was still lying on the uncomfortable hospital bed, with the smelly sanitized sheet over her.

Her eyes remained shut as she tried to decide if showing she was awake was worth it. Would they sedate her again? Hell, at this point, she hoped they would. Anything was better than having to live the reality she was living.

A grunting sound made her muscles tighten. It was eerily quiet in the Lab otherwise. Something wasn’t right. She heard the sound again but it wasn’t grunting. A language? She couldn’t make it out. Heart pounding, Sadie measured her options. She could show she was awake and see what was going on, or she could keep feigning sleep in hopes that whoever it was making the noise would leave her alone. The choice was stolen from her as something pricked her toe and made her jerk her eyes open.

With a kick of her foot that was automatic, she came in contact with a hard wall of chest that felt more like brick. Catching the creature unawares he stumbled backwards and she shrieked before scrambling off the table. I’m not bound.

Run, stupid.

Without getting a good look at the person she’d knocked over, Sadie went running for the door. Where ever she was, it wasn’t any place in the prison she’d ever seen. The door in front of her slid open to reveal a massive body standing in a tight black uniform that wasn’t anything humans wore. The hooded figure stepped forward and she backtracked right into the arms of the male she’d knocked over. He wrapped thick arms around her waist and said something else to her that she couldn’t understand. Thrashing wildly she stomped down on the instep of the man behind her and then slammed her elbow backward. It was a miracle she didn’t break any bones because each area of contact made her wince in pain as if she’d just stomped and elbowed rebar.

Was she just in a nightmare? Then why did that hurt so bad, stupid? The two men were saying things back and forth, perhaps at her but for the love of god she couldn’t understand them. They sounded pissed.

Finally the one behind her let her go and she moved quickly to grab a stool. Holding it up like a shield, she tried to usher them away from her even as they closed in. Their hands were up coming toward her and her back hit the corner of the room. She was trapped. Useless tears began spilling down her face whether she wanted them to or not. When would the nightmare end.

The man who had stuck her with something was large and a dark stone color. Was he the same species as the man in the cell? Deep purple eyes stared at her and his lips moved but she just shook her head. What were they saying?

The other man who had cornered her was completely covered in black. The hood over his face shadowed his features so she couldn’t see his face at all. Even his hands were enveloped in gloves.

She heard sobbing and somehow realized it was coming from her even as she thrust the stool legs at the men in front of her. Adrenaline coursed through her body, dumping massive amounts in her bloodstream. Sadie was literally shaking with it. The events in the past 48 hours, she guessed, had put so much of it into her body that when the adrenaline finally wore off she felt like an addict going through withdrawal. A cold sweat tracked it’s way down her spine and between her breasts.

“Go away! Please. Leave leave me alone!” How she’d managed to form the words she didn’t know but she’d screamed them.

The door behind the wall of men in front of her snicked open. She couldn’t see but assumed there was backup on the way. Why hadn’t they just grabbed the stool from her hands and yanked it away? One of them could easily subdue her.
