Pacing the small area near the window outlooking space was all she could do. Sadie’s legs wobbled from exhaustion but sitting down wasn’t currently an option for her whirling mind. She couldn’t help but feel like she was on some sort of never ending roller coaster- a moment of peace punctuated by a rapid descent- only to do it all over again. Staying positive was difficult when she suddenly felt like she left one horrid meat market, to a slightly less horrid one.

Okay, she admitted. It’s a lot less horrid.

But still. She’d tried really hard to make her way on Sonar 7. Instead she ended up stomped on by a bunch of male government officials. She’d heard rumors that on Earth, women had risen higher and higher in the government and in society. It wasn’t like that on Sonar 7. Instead, women had been pushed out of the government. They were, however, allowed in the sciences, which was one reason she’d studied so hard. The other was so she would be able to become something other than a housewife. Not that there was anything wrong with being a housewife but it just wasn’t something she dreamed of. Though, the thought had crossed her mind a few times in her cell.

The thought of just being around for breeding made her stomach turn. Trevorians probably treated their women much like human males. They were to be seen and not really heard. Even as a scientist, she would have had to work under a male who would probably steal her findings and pretend they were his own.

To think Sadie had a moment where she’d thought everything would be better. That she was completely safe with Ash. But now, everything was all screwed up again. The only human female in the prison was one shitty thing but now she was the only human female on a ship of alien men that wanted her for specifically breeding.

Well, none of them had shown specific interest in mating with her specifically. Still.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, Sadie dropped her head into her hands. The second her eyes closed she relived the fear of being strapped to the table naked with a very large male between her thighs and being unable to do anything. Even after snapping her eyes open to gaze out at the stars in the distance, she still saw his ice blue eyes watching her as he thrust against her. He’d resigned himself to do what he had to but never hurt her. No doubt the general would have killed her had Ash not done what he’d done.

Sadie couldn’t blame him but the helplessness she’d felt tied down and naked made the fine hairs on the back of her neck stand up just thinking about it.

That was it though. He must have known his men were coming. He must have. That meant if he’d taken her, he would have been able to impregnate her. That’s what his people wanted right?  She could be with his child now if he’d been selfish and taken what he wanted.

Not that he wanted her.

Frux.

Sadie had no idea how long her thoughts were attacking her before the door to her room slid open. Facing the stars she didn’t turn around. If they were there to do anything to her, she really had no choice.

A throat cleared but she didn’t move.

“I half expected you to ambush and beat me with a drawer or something.”

She expelled air at the sound of Ash’s voice.

“That’s a really great idea. I’ll have to remember that for next time.” Sadie couldn’t recognize her voice. It was cold. Emotionless.

A clink and then the smell of food drifted over to her. The rumble in her stomach was like a bomb going off in the silent room. Her heart rate sped up at the thought of actually eating real food.

“Please come over here and eat, Sadie.”

Stubbornly, she stayed still while her brain processed what she should do. Problem was, there were too many thoughts and none of them stuck.
