The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my father on the phone. It was around 8am, the bright morning light outside shone in my room bathing my skin.
Walking out to the lounge room in my sleep wear, I noticed my fathers facial features. His eyebrows were furrowed, almost knitted together as he began cursing in frustration. "This is unbelievable!" He roared, barely glancing my way. "Fucking mutts. Does the Alpha know?" He paused. "I'll go now. Start gathering more men, we clearly aren't doing enough." With that said, he hung up his phone and threw it on the couch.
"What's going on?" I asked, pulling my dark hair up into a loose pony tail.
My father met my eyes, and his hardened ones instantly softened. "This pack is going to shit; just like our last one." He said shaking his head. "We can never get a break."
I had no clue what he was on about in relation to our current pack, but in regards to mentioning our past pack my whole body stiffened. The memories instantly began racing through my mind. Air piercing screams...dead pups...fires...blood.. I shook my head. The past is unforgettable but it doesn't mean I won't stop trying to forget it.
"Go get dressed. You're skipping school today. I'll need you to help me in the office."
I didn't question him. My father wasn't stupid; he knew what he was doing and I respected it. He's all I have left. Although I was still left as confused as I was before. I had no clue as to what was going on, but once I was dressed and standing outside the Alphas quarters I knew I was about to find out real soon.
Two men dressed in all black stood beside the double iron doors. With a simple nod of the head, they welcomed us into the quarters. A room I was all too familiar with.
I'd been here multiple times to help pack members with their bonds. Whether it be creating, breaking or tightening. The red and white damask walls surrounding us were lit up by cream coloured lamps. If it wasn't a painting covering a section of the wall, it was a chest of drawers or elegant decor. The Luna loved to paint and she had such talent for it, I was always in a state of awe when I saw them.
Two long black leather couches with gold rimming were situated opposite each other with a dark coffee table in between. Papers—specifically maps were spread out across the surface along with a compass and a few pieces of clothing.
Alpha Damien wasn't anywhere to be seen. I looked up at my father. His face remained blank; I felt his hand pressing against my lower back, urging me to go forward.
As I walked further into the living room with my father in tow, I heard a round of vicious growls vibrate through the air, shaking the walls. I could feel my own wolf pick up inside of me, standing on alert.
My body had never reacted so fast in my life. One second the door opposite us was smashing wide open, growl after growl radiating our surroundings. The next I was tumbling to the side as I avoided the deathly grip of an enraged wolf mid-transformation.
"IT'S HER!" He growled slashing his claws towards me but was pulled back in time and restrained by my father and Alpha Damien.
I blinked a couple times before I got my bearings straight. Jumping off of the floor with the sound of my drastically racing heart beating through my ears, my wolf began fighting me for dominance. She wanted to come out and protect us but now wasn't the right time.
I almost gasped out loud when I realised who the wolf was that vigorously jumped at me. It was Riven's mate. That asshole of a wolf. I felt enraged myself coming eye to eye with this monstrosity.
His dark hair was mangled everywhere, and the lack of sleep was prominent where his dark eye bags were. He had his fangs out and his eyes were pitch black. My father and Alpha Damien held a deathly grip on the mad wolf but that didn't stop him from continuously trying to lash out towards me. "I CAN SMELL HER ON YOU! WHERE IS SHE?" He roared, spit flying everywhere like an animal infested with rabies.
