We're the Pogues, and our mission this summer is to have a good time, all the time.

The girl with the freckled cheeks basked in the dying rays of sunlight as the sun set before her. With the wind flowing and the sound of sea birds around, she felt at peace. Then the feeling of something icy cold on the side of her neck snapped her out of her daydreams, and she whipped her head to the right to glare at the blond boy beside her.

"That's freezing JJ!" A lopsided grin was thrown her way, the angry look fading off of her face almost immediately as he passed her the offending beer.

"Can you please not kill yourself?" Kiara Carrera, Kook-turned-Pogue, looked up to where a 4th member of the group stood balancing on a roof. "If you fall, I'm not catching you."

The boy with Sandy brown hair and a freckled face made an 'oooooh' noise as he leant forward, a converse covered foot hanging over the lip of the roof. To him, there was nothing better than spending time with friends. Even if it was time spent bickering and joking at each others expense.

"Don't spill that beer, I'm not giving you another one."

As if the blond had jinxed it, a can came crashing down to the deck of the house the friends had taken over. Scoffing, the freckled girl looked up towards the roof where her brother stood, a dramatic look on his face.

Before the boy had the chance to let out a sad scream, the 5th and final member of the group tapped his knuckles on the banister. "Hey, uh, security's here."

"Humpty Dumpty," said JJ as he did some sort of move onto his back before being helped up by the girl beside him, "let's roll."

The five friends took off through the house, whoops of joy leaving their mouths as the clearly not thrilled security guards took off after them, though they weren't as speedy. The group split up, the girl opting to run through what she assumed would become a dining room once the house was done. Letting out a squeal as one of the guards nearly grabbed her by the shirt, she shimmied away before running through the yard to the fence.

Her short stature had never bothered her much, even though it caused a lot of teasing. However, she wasn't thrilled at the fact that it seemed as though it would be causing her a trespassing fine any second.

Her search for the gate was cut short as she heard someone yell from behind her. "Hey short stack!" JJ Maybank grabbed her by the hips, lifting her up so she could clamber over the tall fence before he pulled himself over it also, his height not impacting him at all.

The two rushed down the street before hopping into the twinkie, the groups van that was being driven by the girls brother. The larger of the two security guards raced after them, though they, and he himself, knew he would never be able to catch up.

Poking his head out the open door, the blond haired boy cheered on the man. "C'mon, you're so close, almost there," JJ grabbed the unopened beer out of his friends hand, tossing it to the man before the girl could complain about her lost drink. "They don't pay you enough, man."

The Outer Banks, paradise on earth. The sort of place where you either have two jobs or two houses. Two tribes, one island.

First, there's Figure Eight, the rich side of the island. Home of the kooks. Easy to guess where they don't live. Then, the south side, or the cut. Home of the working class who make a living bussing tables, washing yachts, running charters.

The natural habitat of... the Pogues.

Pogues, pogies, the throwaway fish. Lowest member of the food chain.

The downside of Pogue life is being ignored and neglected. But the upside of Pogue life? Being ignored and neglected, which means you can do whatever you want,  whenever you want.
