Tanya needed to talk to Tyr. She knew she shouldn’t hack into his account; he would think she was just trying to get back together with him. And she had to ask herself if she was; was this just a ploy to get back in his good books? No, she told herself, it was important to tell him about the entities. He could be in danger.
‘Hello Charlie, um… good to see you are still around.’ she called, out of the blue. He wasn’t expecting her talk to him, but he should have known she would.
‘Yeah, I do turn up occasionally.’ he said. He knew she must have hacked in to his character settings to unblock her name from his account, and although he was flattered, he felt uncomfortable.
‘Look, I know you don’t want to talk to me, but I really need to tell you something.’ She said.
‘I thought you already told me everything.’
‘Yeah, I told you how I feel, you know I still want to be with you, but this isn’t about that.’
‘You still want to be with me? After all this time, and even though you know it’s not going to happen?’
‘Yeah. I do.’ She said. Kali wanted it more than anything else, and held her breath on that hope.
‘I don’t understand why.’ He said.
‘Neither do I,’ she said. ‘ I guess it’s just that we were such good friends, we were close, and I miss that. There are other reasons, but it’s best not to go there. You see, that’s why…’
‘You say it’s best not to go there, and then you do. Interesting concept.’ He interrupted. Was he flirting with her again? She wished that he was, but she couldn’t tell.
‘No. I was just saying, that’s why I’m not playing so much anymore.’ She said.
‘I see.’
‘Anyway, that’s not why I need to see you.’ She said.
‘Oh, so you need to see me now?’
‘No, not really, well yes, I do, I need to show you something.’ Kali told him. This was so uncomfortable; she didn’t want to mess up again, and it was delicate. Tyr was already unhappy that she’d got into his account and changed the settings.
‘Can’t you just tell me about it?’ he said, he sounded cold and irritated.
‘You really don’t want anything to do with me do you?’ Kali said. ‘Well, Ok I will just tell you about it if I can. We could all be in real danger.’ She didn’t think she should tell him everything – just enough to keep him safe.
‘Oh no, not this Somasync stuff again.’ He moaned.
‘Well, kind of, but it’s about Dolhran too. I think he was killed in the game deliberately. There are these monsters they call thought-based entities. They are really horrible Charlie!’
‘Please Kali, can you just call me Tyr.’ He knew what that would mean to her.
‘Aww, c’mon, lets not be stupid about names. This is important! These things, I found them in the database, but only the one time - they’re called ‘thought-based entities’ and they’re really dangerous. They keep you in the game, even when you call for game over.’ She also wanted to tell him about what she had seen in the scrying bowl, and what had happened to his friend in the real world, but she didn’t want him to know she had looked into anyone’s personal details; she knew that would freak him out. He said nothing, so she went on.
‘It’s strange, I’ve tried to look these entities up again in the database, but the information has gone, it’s not there. It might be hidden, but I don’t know why that would be. It’s like it was never there, but it was; I saw it!’
