(I know. The background is crappy.)
The warm breeze did nothing to stop the anxious pacing of the female as she kept looking back at her friend.
"You shouldn't have done that. How am I supposed to explain you to my moms and dad?" She finally stopped and looked over at her friend. "Not that I don't appreciate what you've done."
The figure slouched against the tree remained silent as he watched her. His battered body and black eye proof of his 'scuffle' with a few people that wished to....'chat' with his friend. Now he wouldn't be a good friend if he just left her to 'talk' by herself. He decided to have a little exchange of his own. Which left him a little worse for wear.
He gave her a large smile.
"Don't smile! We're gonna be in big trouble! They don't know about you." Her face became more worried. "Do you know how protective they can be with this whole peace movement?!"
His smile slowly faded but he held a hand out-
"No! I will not calm down! This is serious!" She plopped down on the ground crushing some of the grass. She threw both hands at him. "What are they gonna think if they find out I'm friends with a boy that I've never told them about and hang out alone with in the woods?"
He scowled at her.
"I know, I know. But what are they gonna think?........Actually my moms are probably gonna be chill, it's my dad you have to worry about."
She flinched when she heard him scoff but relaxed. He never really said words and usually spoke with his body, but it was surprising whenever he did make any sounds.
"Cassy, you know how dads can be. Maybe he'll lighten up if I tell him you were beat up for me.....What am I saying?" Her face fell into her hands. "Im sorry....This is all my fault."
......Her fault?
"Your fault?!"
Both jumped and she looked up as some lump wriggled within his blue vest mumbling and cursing. Eventually becoming more violent with it's thrashing.
"Son of a b*tch! Casanova, your father didn't make me a pocket watch! Let me the f*ck out! Whadda I have to go to get some respect around here!?"
The cat immediately pulled his vest pocket out more and the thing's head popped out. It glared at him.
"About time! I need to breath too y'know!" It then did a complete 180 turn and expression and focused on her with a frown. "Lavy, don't say anything like that. You're a beautiful gift from heaven. Your parents don't deserve you."
This got a chuckle and headshake from her. "Hart...That's very nice of you to say....but it was me they were after. Not you or Cassy."
It was very nice of the magically living staff to say, and while it was supposed to make her feel better, all it did was make her feel worse. It was HER those men wanted. Not her friends. She was honestly surprised this didn't happen sooner with the steady rise of her parents' movement for peace and equality. Guess they didn't think of following her into the woods before, or held off harming her until now. Can't say she could really blame Cassy for what he did. If she saw someone threatening him or Creek, she'd probably defend them too, but Cassy nearly got his but kicked....Nearly. She'd never seen him so angry before. That didn't mean he didn't get away scott free though.
"T-This is all my fault."
"No."
Both flinched at the sudden male voice. She stared into the red n' yellow eyes of her friend. He stared back with a silent stare. Hart looked between the two in silence for a moment.
".....Ok. Since no one is gonna f*ckin' say it, I will." He whirled around. "Did you just talk?"
He didn't look at him. "N-No. Their fault..not..yours."
The two exchanged looks. Casanova.....was talking! Though it seemed spaced and slowed, like speaking was a new thing for him. He chuckled at her obviously surprised expression and shifted his body. A hiss escaped his mouth as he got to his aching legs, using the tree to help him stand, but once on his feet, he limped towards her. She stood up to meet his approaching body, still unsure about what to think of the sudden change in character.
He stopped in front of her and smiled. "I-I'll explain...Not. Your. Fault."
"....." She blinked. "....Cass, you hurt those guys pretty badly. What I you get in trouble?"
"She has a point. The place's justice system is f*cked beyond belief."
His smile widened. "It w-will be...f-fine."
She shook her head. "No. It's best you go back home now. I don't want you in danger."
"I'll....manage."
"Why won't you listen to me?!," she shouted at him, "You need to leave! I won't let you get in trouble!.....Why won't you listen?"
She flinched when his hand grabbed her shoulder. The other one pushed her chin up to keep her eye level. His smile became toothy.
"Because....I-I love you."
