(This was supposed to be posted around Christmas but life happened. Sorry it's late.)
The safety that H*ll provided had it's ups and downs. One being that the holiday known as Christmas was completely forbidden. She didn't mind too much. She never really celebrated it much growing up. Her holidays were either spent being made to practice her studies or more recently her work. But Ms. Tentadora had been nice enough to give her the day off. She honestly had no idea what to do since any or all her friends had more important things to do than celebrate a holiday their king deemed useless. But, oh boy. When her boyfriend got wind of it, he jumped at the chance to drag her into one of his trips to the surface.....Quite literally with her heaved over one of his shoulders and his 'body guard' under his arm. The surface had always been something she was nervous about. Usually because of her family, but when your boyfriend was a Prince of H*ll, you would have to expect some things like fear to be pushed aside sometimes. The party that had been held by someone her boyfriend called Auntie Sahara was stationed at a local bar and they (maybe) got an earful from Indigo about drinking responsiblilty. The small bar had been decked out for the holiday season and even she had to admit it was a sweet set up. She knew and recognized most of the people in their little group. Mostly because they were all Helsing's friends. Julian, Camelia, Dimitri, Thomas, and some of their parents. Though there was other people there as well. Drinking the old holiday cheers down. She herself had politely declined any alcohol offered to her and instead sipped on some eggnog they had. She had tried awkwardly to talk and mingle among the others, but eventually settled for just sitting by the bar. The stool was soft, and it made for a cozy little sitting-
A small tink noise made her flinch and spin around towards the bar. A small glass of what looked-or smelled-like alcohol. Her nose wrinkled up at it before looking at the bartender. He seemed bored, but looked at her from the corner of his eyes.
"What?"
"I don't drink," she said pointing at the glass.
He grunted and rolled his eyes at her complaint. "My boss gave orders to give it to ya."
He pointed his hand in the direction of a table. She followed his movement, and though it was hard to see past the many other people there, but she could finally see a single man sitting at the table. His serpent eyes and large fanged smile widened once he made eye contact with those rosey pink eyes of her's. She wrinkled her snout at this cliché offer of an absolute STRANGER giving her a 'free' drink. Past experience on the streets and in h*ll (and the many MANY warnings from both Tenta and Ms. Hilda) had taught her that no drink offered to you at a bar was 'free'. The offer-y always wanted....something from you. For all she knew, it could be drugged.
After a few seconds of just staring at each other, she turned back to the grump of a bartender and in a firm voice asked, "How much does this shot cost?"
"When my boss gives someone a drink, it's fr-"
"I don't care," her eyes narrowed, "I won't accept anything I didn't buy myself so-" She nudged the drink at him. ''-either you take it back or I pay."
After a moment, he sighed. "Ten fifty. Plus tip."
She mumbled something about expensive crappy drinks and reached a brown paw down to rummage in her sweater's pocket. She didn't look, but still felt the serpent's eyes burning the side of her face. A twenty was slapped on the counter a moment later.
"Keep the change."
He grunted and rudely snatched the bill away without another word.
"Thank you."
He didn't say anything, but went back to tend to other customers. Which left her and the drink. Curiousity got the better of her so she carefully wrapped her paw around it. Slowly bringing it up eye level to her face, taking a couple sniffs. And snorted from the terrible smell. How could anyone drink this if the scent was this repulsive?! Maybe it tasted better than it smelled-
"Margey!" The sudden loud voice made her jump, almost spilling her drink, and whip around. Only to land face first into a checkered jacket. Rosy eyes looked up into mitch-matched ones and a very wide smirk. "Hey, sugar cube.~"
"Helsing, seriously. Stop sneaking up on me."
The demon chuckled and slowly slunk into the stool on the right of her. Propping both arms against the counter. Her gave her a look over, stopping at the glass she still held.
"....So ya finally decided to try some, huh?"
She blinked and shook her head befoe holding it out to him. "It was a 'gift' from that man behind us." She pointed behind her, and he leaned back enough to see past her.
".....You don't say..." She nodded and flinched when the glass was suddenly yanked from her paw and went flying from her hand shattering against the wall. The sound caught the attention from some others.
"Helsing!" Her scowl meant nothing to him when the stool was turned, turning her around with it and was ounce again forced against him. She didn't share his laughs and instead scowled more at him. "You do realize we have to pay for that, right?"
His response was to pull her up with him when he stood. Forcing an 'Eep!' outta her and a few snickers from some people around them. One look and growl from the H*ll Prince made anyone shut up and look away. Pulling her tighter against his taller body. This made her groan and shake her head.
"Did you even hear me?"
He shrugged and steered her away from the crowded area. "Tell 'em ta stick the bill up his a$$. He shouldn't bother with what's not his."
"Helsing, you-.....*sigh* Where are we even going?"
He glanced at her from the corner of his eyes and smiled wider. "Outside."
"Why?"
"I want to show you something."
He ignored any other looks or questions she gave him in favor of getting her out and away from everyone else's view. The one hand still his jacket pawed at the plush object. It took him a good long while to get this thing, he'd be d*mmed if she didn't like it. What if it reminded her too much of her old home?.......SH*T!! He didn't even think about that! Oh, well. Too late now. The exit to the back was right ahead of them now. He reached out his arm and grabbed the door handle, yanking it open, and gesturing his head out. She gave him a confused look, but proceeded out with him close behind. It must've been cold out because she visibly shivered and slunk her arms around her body. While he himself couldn't physically feel anything, he knew how others were affected by temperature. She turned back to him when she heard the door close, raising an eyebrow.
"Ok. You wanted to show me something?"
It might've been just her....but she could've sworn his smile became smaller. But, she just shrugged it off.
"Marge. Y'know how my gramps is with this whole Christmas thing." He rolled his eyes and nervously gripped the thing in his pocket. "I don't really see the big deal about it but....." He slowly removed his other hand from his pocket, dragging out the object with it. A blur of purple was thrusted at her. "It's tradition to give your girlfriend something so.....Happy Holidays or whatever."
She blinked and stared at the object he held. A pair of button eyes stared back on a fuzzy little bear head. He stood there watching her expression slowly go from confused to wide eyed. With shaking paws, she slowly reached out to gently wrap her paws around it. The way she acted was like it was made out of brittle porcelain.
They both looked on in silence-
"Grape!"
The happy squeals made him flinch as he watched her suddenly compress the little toy to her cheek like a proud mother would her baby. He visibly let out a sigh and smiled at her happy reaction.
"Y-Yeah. It's Grape. I thought you might-*Gmph*!!"
If he could physically feel, the grip to his head might've hurt. But if anything....it was amusing to watch her start pressing her lips all over his face and keeping his head in a headlock. He chuckled before she quite literally tackle hugged him.
"Thankyouthankyouthankyou!! Where did you get him?," she asked looking at him.
His smile got bigger as he slunk an arm around his form, and shrugged. "Lacey knows Quivor's kid and he had your old room. Hilda cleaned it up though."
He remembered her sometimes talking about her old teddy bear she left behind when she ran off. And what better way to impress your girl than to get her a plush?
"I know, I know. I'm the best boyfriend you ever had, and very thoughtful if I say so.~''
She narrowed her eyes at him, but still smiled. "You're an a$$."
"Hey! I happen to have a beautiful a$$.~"
She shoved him, but he seemed to rebound back instantly and hook his arms back around her with a small growl. She yelped when he listed her up, making him chuckle.
"HELSING!!"
"Yes?~"
She gave him a flushed look but didn't say anything to his smirking face. He nuzzled into the side of her face with a purr.
"Y-You literal a$$," she said turning away and giving him a cute puppy pout. Making him smile wider.
"Love ya too, Babe.~"
