Sitting in front of my vanity- mirror, on grandma’s ancient rocking chair, I gently applied translucent powder upon my face. With so many thoughts running through my head, it felt as though the party was ages away, when it was merely thirty minutes. Therefore, with a dash of blush on my cheekbones, and my favorite red lipstick put on my lips, I stood up and straightened my clothes before levitating the chair to the corner of my room. Grabbing my wine glass off of the vanity, I made my way to my walk in closet.
Inside, in the center of the room on the dress up dummy, it was looking as brilliant as it did earlier that very day. Placing the wine glass on a side table, I unzipped my clothes before shimming into my brand new dress. This dress, I thought to myself, will make it a wedding anniversary he will never forget.
It was fifty-five minutes into the party, and I kept hopelessly saying to myself inside, he said he’d be here, but there was one thing missing Ronald himself. I looked around my laughing friends and took a glass of wine from the food sever before chugging it down in one drink. Trying to keep my shield of fake happiness up in front of my friends, I pulled Draco closer to me and put my head on his chest.
I kept expecting Ron to burst in the door but he never did, and it was now that I realized I had to make an announcement since the final guest arrived. “Draco,” I whispered looking into his grey-blue eyes, “I have to go make an announcement now so will you come with me?” With a sigh on his part, Draco nodded before giving my hand a gentle squeeze. “Of course Hermione that’s what best friends are for.”
Walking into the center of the room, I quickly grabbed my fourth glass of wine tonight before tapping it lightly with my wand. Instantly everyone’s eyes were on me. Clearing my throat, I put on my best fake smile before speaking. “Well I would like to personally take this opportunity to thank all of Ronald’s and my family and friends for coming tonight. We love you all so much, and couldn’t think of any better company to spend our fifth wedding anniversary and Christmas Eve with.” I said speaking the last part quietly.
“Oi, where is the lover boy?” I heard one male guest shout loudly. And just like that in slow motion I realized he was truly not showing. Giving a quick , “excuse me,” to the guest I shoved my wine glass into Draco’s free hand before running to the bathroom with tears streaming down my face.
Hearing murmurs from outside the bathroom, I realized it was Blaise Zabini that made the shocking yet true answer known. Feeling as though I was about to throw up any second now, I leaned over the toilet merely to hear footsteps enter the bathroom and feeling Ginny’s hands holding my hair up for me. Puking horrendously into the toilet, I used the cleaning spell on my mouth before letting silent sobs explode.
It was then that I felt a tall presence enter the bathroom at last. “Where the bloody hell is that man? I want to murder him with my own hands right now! That selfish man stood up his own wife at their anniversary party. What kind of selfish imbecile does that!?” I heard Draco shout before I turned around on the floor. Seeing my eyes for the first time were bloodshot red, I felt myself engulfed in the arms of my closest friends Ginny, Luna, Harry, and Draco.
“I don’t know,” I whimpered. “I suppose a man that could care less about his marriage of five years.” I said throwing my wedding ring at the floor. “Oh Hermione”, Luna said in soothing tones, “I reckon Ron has a good reason for not showing up.” Clearing his throat, that was when Harry spoke up. “No Luna, I don’t think he does have a good reason. He was my best mate sure, but that’s not the kind of thing you do to a loved one. He was in the office when I left to come pick up Ginny from her flat. Hermione, love, he was in there with Pansy Parkinson.” He spoke with his voice fading at the last part.
“I still say we murder the bloody fool,” Draco said. “My loyalty is with her,” Draco spat motioning towards me. “That Weasel, has abandoned her when she needed him the most. And where have we been my friends? We have been here for her! We are the ones who never have ever forsaken our best friend.”
Standing up wobbly, I nodded before casting a glamour charm on myself before once again entering into the crowded room of guests. Silence fell upon the crowd, as they all waited for me to speak now. “Dinner will now be served in the dining hall,” I spoke shakily.
“Hermione,” I heard Draco whisper into my ear. “He never deserved you in the first place.” Turning towards him, I saw passion in his eyes that I’ve never seen before. Indeed, it made me feel quite uneasy. Therefore, with a quick excuse I left the room and headed back towards the bathroom to catch my breath. It was when I was in there, that I realized I had thrown my wedding ring somewhere on the floor. “Shit,” I muttered to myself getting down on my knees and looking all over the ground. “Where the hell did I throw that thing?”
It was then that I saw the male shadow in the corner of the bathroom. Frozen in place, I heard him say in a fuming voice, “I believe you’re looking for this.”
Okay, so I am hardly the best writer but I rather did enjoy this chapter. It was inspired by “The Moment I Knew”, by Taylor Swift. That song is brilliant and written about Jake Gyllenhall. Anyways, I hope you liked my little ending there… all reviews are welcomed.
Love always,
