6- This was a new type of pain

I'd been beat before. A couple of bullies I thought were my friends ganged up on me in the locker room. It hurt, but not worse than the betrayal I felt as they looked me in the eyes and laughed.

I'd been kidnapped before. It was by one of my dad's rival gangs. I was nine and I had been terrified. But they were nicer than I thought. Even when one slapped me (so hard I cracked my neck) for crying loud, one kissed the bruised cheek, another gave me candy, and the next snuck a blanket for me in the dungeon like room I'd been shoved in.

I'd fought before. That's how Adam and I met. I had picked a fight with some of his friends. When they were all on the floor, and Adam and I were the only ones left standing, we both laughed and high fived. He later got jumped by those same "friends" and had to switch schools. Obviously, he chose mine.

So yeah, I'd been through a lot. But this was different. It was way different.

The plan failed. I got the glass but it hardly did any damage when I hit him with it. As I dashed for the door, he grabbed my ankle. My head hit the floor so hard, I saw stars. Then he stomped on my ankle with enough force that it probably came out of place.

He was fuming, all beauty gone as his face went red and he spit curses at me. All my attempts were useless. I couldn't do anything against him. And he no longer wasted anytime with me.

There was nothing I could do but try and struggle futilely. And futile it was.

It was more than just pain. I'd been in pain before.

Never like this. Even when I could no longer feel anything and my throat was sore from yelling- it felt like my mind was still screaming. It didn't stop. Even when he stopped, my mind just went on screaming and it ached. Even as I was left curled up and broken on the floor, it screamed and screamed and screamed and screamed.

I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. All I heard was just ringing in my ears. My eyes were open but my vision was blurry.

I didn't even feel like I was myself. I was watching myself from the outside, like my soul had left my body. I felt disposed of- like trash.

It took barely an hour for the most confident girl anyone's known to become just that. The word bounced around my head the whole time.

Trash.
