Chapter 12

Justin's POV:

"This place looks nice." I say, as I went to check my phone and turn to "do not disturb" for the date.

"You called?" I ask, looking up at her.

"Yeah, but you didn't answer so I just texted you. I like texting more than calling but my mom says I need to talk to people more." She said that sentence so fast that she gasped for air.

"You're talking to me, aren't you?" I say before a waiter came by, looking at Julia for a split second too long. The waiter comes back with our burgers and milkshakes.

"Careful, I don't want you to fall and hurt yourself." I say, as Julia leans back into the chair.

"I hope you wash your hands." I laugh at my own joke. She nods and gives me some hand sanitizer.

"I always wash my hands." She laughs.
"That's good." There's this awkward silence. I take a bite of my burger.

"So, what's your family like?" I ask her.
"Well, I have two half siblings. My parents got divorced when I was four. My father has another family with a son and a daughter." She says, looking at her drink glass.

"How much younger are they?" I ask.
"My sister is five years younger than me. My brother is ten years younger." She says, popping a fry in her mouth. I lean back in my chair.

"Careful, I don't want you to fall." She says, continuing to eat her fries.

"What about your family?" Julia asks. I grip the table.

"Um, you saw the picture. I have a younger sister, Jasmine and two parents." I say, eating a bit of my burger.

"Oh, right. I forget small details." She laughs nervously.

Julia's POV:

"Should we order dessert?" He asks, finishing up the last of his milkshake. I can see his reflection on the glass.

"What were you thinking of?" I ask, signaling over our waiter.

"Maybe a chocolate sundae?" He points to a picture of a delicious looking chocolate sundae. The chocolate was dripping down the sides and the nuts were sprinkled on top. He signals a waiter.

"Can we get a chocolate sundae, please?" I ask. The waiter nods and goes back towards the kitchen.

A few minutes later, our sundae arrives. We click spoons and take that first bite in unison. It was gone in a few minutes.

"That was good." I say, wiping my mouth. He agrees and puts his napkin in front of him.
"Do you want to leave?" He asks, looking everywhere but my eyes.

"Yes." I nod, having done enough socializing for the night. He pays for the meal.
"I'll drop you off." He says as I turn directions to walk home. It was nearly 10:00pm and dark except for a few street lights.

"Oh, I can walk." I say.
"It's 10:00pm and pitch black out there." He says, looking at me with a are you really going to walk home? look.

"Good point." I get in the car and put my address into his phone. After a fifteen minutes, we are at my house.

"I had a really good time tonight." He says. He leans in for a kiss. I gladly accept.

"Do you want to be my boyfriend?" I ask.
"Yes." He says, before I go in for the night.
