'Hi, My name is Melissa Patton, I'm no one special, to be honest, I'm just your average 19 year old girl, I'm not too exciting and not too boring, if I was a color I would be grey if I was a day I would be considered a Wednesday, but enough about that. I'm writing this on my brand new journal that my psychologist gave me to "Express Myself", I have a few issues with this world around me, doesn't help that I just recently moved into a new neighborhood too. Why did my psych doctor give me a journal? It's because my mind tends to drift and get lost in the clouds. The journal is supposed to keep me focused, to help me write down all the things that would get me distracted, and as I've said before to express myself and keep my emotions in line, anyways this is going to be the end of my first entry in this journal, Sunday 10/6/2020.'
I looked out the window of the moving van as my Dad sat in the driver's seat, I pulled out my phone and plugged my earphones in, and scrolled through my music playlist, looking for something to help me calm down and numb my anxiety, I decided to turn off my phone and placed it back into my pocket without playing a song, and just drifted off to sleep while leaning on the van's window frame, I don't know what time it is or how long I've been asleep for but I heard a tap on the window I was leaning on and heard my dad call "Mel! come wake up, we're here" I lazily sat back straight and stretched and yawned before shouting "Coming Dad!"
I hopped out of the van and followed him as he walked to the front porch of a house, it looked like a small and friendly neighborhood and the house was fairly nice I turned to him "Do we really have to move?..." he sighed softly and took my baseball cap and ruffled my hair before placing it back on and saying in a husky but gentle sounding voice "You know why we have to move kiddo" he gave me a warm smile as I nod and watched him unlock the door to the house, I can tell it was nearing dawn since we left our old town at dusk. He sighed softly and opened the door and walked inside "Mel, You'll catch a cold if you keep standing around outside"
he said jokingly and gestured for me to come inside, I comply laughing softly at his joke and flipped on the light switch and walked to the garage, and opened the door from the inside "I think we should start moving our stuff in" I said while chuckling softly and looked at him, he nodded and went outside to start unloading the small boxes and I took them inside and opened them before grabbing the other boxes and hauling them inside, leaving the bigger furniture in the truck so we can move it later, we sat down in the living room and started to open the boxes filled with clothes and other essentials like towels, bathing supplies and all that I stood up with a small box filled with posters and art supplies and looked at my dad.
"hey dad?..where's my room?" he looked at me and smiled softly "Down the hall, first door on the left" I gave him a nod and started to hang up the posters in my room, they were mostly band posters, like Paramore, Pretty Vicious, Radiohead and so on I sighed softly and opened the blinds of the window of my room and saw it was already day, I went back to the living room and rummaged through a few boxes and grabbed the ones with my clothes and my other stuff and placed them in my room before stringing my light blue and white fairy lights around my room and plugging them in, Illuminating the space as I turned on my alarm clock and reset the alarms to wake me up for school tomorrow and plopped down on my bed as I heard my phone ring, I sat up and pulled it out of my pocket before looking at the caller Id 'Mom', I picked up.
"Hello?..Mom?" I asked and waited for an answer, I heard a soft sigh from the other end "Thank goodness you made it" she said relieved "I'll be there tomorrow, to spend time with you two" she said cheerfully and I knew she was smiling "Thanks, mom.." I softly said to her and giggled "I have to run sweetie, I'll see you tomorrow" she said and hung up, I placed the phone onto a desk beside my table which has my laptop and headset on it, and sat down on the table writing on my journal again.
'Today has been a really busy day for me and my dad, we had to spend a few hours unpacking and I still have to think about school tomorrow, I'm super nervous and anxious... I feel like that I won't make friends or I'll get treated like another fuckin outcast-' I sighed and looked around my room before pulling out a box cutter and opening a box and pulling out a few more decorative pieces like my old skateboard decks and started to hang them on the wall before looking around and laid down on the bed and sighed.
"Ughhh at this point It'll take for fucking ever to unpack.." I looked around and sighed again before opening another box and pulling out a big stuffed dog "Hella! it's nice to see you again Gnasher!" I smiled and cuddled him on the bed before sighing softly "sometimes I feel like you're the only one who listens to me Gnash" I smiled and placed him on the bed and started to unpack more boxes and tidy up my room, I yawned and walked out of my room before looking around for more of my clothes to put into my wardrobe and dropped dead on the bed when I was finished, anxious for tomorrow
