It was half an hour past dawn, and the sun only peeked from over the trees. The Myre had a thick fog that permeated the air, giving a mystical quality to the temple. This was normal for the Myre, however, as it was a marsh. The general's own snoring had awoken him. He groggily licked his dry lips and shifted his head. Blinking a few times, he could see the timing incense read early morning, the sixth hour. As he shifted in bed, there was an almost inaudible set of screams outside. They were clearly from far town the tower.
As he lifted himself to hear better and blinked a few times more, a crash loud as an explosion, as a boulder ripped its way through the side of his room with the door. The floor fell slanted and his bed with him, and everything in his room slid quickly towards the now missing half of the room. He was fully aware now, leaping from his bed as it fell through the floor and grabbing hold of the loose floorboards. They snapped with his weight and he fell two floors onto solid wood. He groaned and grabbed his side as he lifted himself from the floor. His sword, still in scabbard fell from the floor up, landing next to him. A loud scraping caught his attention upstairs, and as he looked up his massive dresser fell from two floors up towards him.
He swiftly rolled, grabbing his sword and dodging the falling dresser as it crashed through the floor he stood on, breaking most of the wood underneath his feet. He fell again through the floor, standing quickly to attention and running from the room he was in. In the hallway he could clearly hear the screams now, shouting "soldiers incoming!" A few of his men rounded the corner, one of them spotting him and yelling, "General Kiru, I thought you were dead!"
"What the hell happ-", Sakura Kiru was cut off as another massive stone burst through the room of the men in front of him, leaving only the man he was speaking to alive, as he made his way into the hallway.
"No time for talking, general, we need to get you into some armor.", the man said, as Kiru stepped past him towards the now empty room in front of him, where he could see for himself what was happening. There was a regiment approaching, a thousand, maybe more. The whistle of arrows could be heard as Kiru deflected one and split another with his sword. He quickly stepped out of the room, dodging the third arrow which landed where he was standing.
"We need to move now.", Kiru said. They quickly made their way through the hallway and down the stairs. The armory wasn't far, when they heard the clash of swords begin outside. They stepped into the armory, Kiru now having time to ready himself for battle.
As he finished tying on the plated armor, he asked the soldier, whose voice he now recognized as Masaō, "Are you ready?""Yes, general.", Masaō responded.
As they stepped out of the room, the fighting could already be heard a floor below them. Kiru slashed the boards beneath him in an "X" before jumping on, and smashing through them. He landed with a roll to find enemies on both sides. Masaō ran for the stairs, not wanting to be cornered as well. The enemy soldier to Kiru's left took a downward swing at Him, which he caught in his ring guard and deflected to his right. As this happened, another took a left swing for his neck at his back. Kiru ducked below the blade, kicking him away, and all in one motion turned back towards the first enemy, catching another of his swipes. This time rather than redirect, he shot his own blade forward into the soldier's throat.
As the enemy soldier fell to the ground, Kiru had time to notice the decaying look of the man. His flesh was pale like snow, his now closing eyes were devoid of color, and he reeked of death. The entire hallway smelled like a corpse, now that Kiru had a moment to take it in. The man he kicked away took a swing at his back once more, but he didn't notice this time, perplexed with the other on the floor. The attacker's blade was parried by a swift Masaō, who had dashed through the hallway at the sight. Masaō took a clean diagonal slice through the enemy's torso.
"They were already dead", Kiru said.
