(From the chambers of lord Sean)

"You called for me?", Selene said in a soft, dry tone, as she entered the room.

"Yes, there's been an incident with the march.", Sean replied, "There was an unexpected intrusion from lord Ainz, leaving only one of our men behind."

"Ainz?", she asked, "We're on good terms with the North Crest, why would Frostbite Stronghold be sending men to impede our march on Seat Deepvalley? How would they have even gotten this far south before our battalion made it, the word hadn't even escaped the Eastern Strip until two days out. Not even our allies knew of our plans."

"My thoughts exactly.", Sean replied. "I think he may have been acting of his own accord, not in collaboration with Lord Mino."

"Unless Him and the Demon bull are in this together, and the party was sent as reinforcement for a siege on the Keep.", Selene replied.

"But still, why would his march be south of Deepvalley?", Sean said, "I'm not convinced that he's working in the Minotaur's interest, he's playing another game."

"What could he possibly-", She was cut off by a knock on the chamber door.

"My lord?", called a muffled voice from the hallway.

"Come in", Sean said. An iron guard walked in,

"The ravens have come in. We have confirmation on the attendance of Lord Paul and Ivan. Lord Oz will not have a seat at the summit.", the guard said.

"And has Lord Oz left an explanation of his absence with the raven or is he just too for the alliance now?", Sean asked in sarcastic, yet irritated tone.

"Lord Oz is worried about Curmudgeon Hold's proximity to Seat Deepvalley. That with your latest attack, Lord Mino would seize the opportunity of his leave to siege Curmudgeon, or possibly interrupt his caravan. The choice to divide his strength between his escort crew and his city could mean the death of either."

Sean scratched his chin. "Very well then, let him stay.", he said. The banging of footsteps towards the lord's chambers brought the attention of the entire room. The iron guard messenger drew his long sword. Out of breath, another guard entered the room.

Breathing heavily, "My lord, there's been another raven from Wing Chun Manor, there has been an attempt on Lord Paul's life, and he is in critical condition."

"Paul was attacked?", Sean asked with questioning fear in his eyes, as he stood up from his desk.

"Yes, my lord, Ainz entered his chambers after making his way through Paul's kings guard, and there was a duel. Lord Paul suffered a break in his wrist, but more importantly a large gash through his leg that almost bled him out, and may leave him crippled for life."

"Almost?", Sean said, with with a sigh of relief as he fell back into his chair. "I feel the term, 'critical condition' is lost on you." Sean rubbed his forehead. "A leg wound, if treated, will not be the end of Lord Paul. Where is he now?"

"He's left the Manor, his march will arrive within the next two weeks.", replied the guard

"Prepare a medical caravan and a reinforcement platoon to be sent his way. I don't want him to cross Seat Deepvalley alone."

"Right away, your grace.", the iron guard said, before briskly marching off.

"Shall we continue our earlier conversation, my lord?", Selene asked.

"I hardly recall the topic.", his voice trailed. "I need time alone, please grant me that."

"Yes, my lord.", She said before leaving.

After the creak of the door Sean was alone again, with only his thoughts and the crackle of the flame.
