Five years after

"Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday, Dear Niccolai...... Happy Birthday to you."

Nicco closed his eyes and made a wish. He blew his candle and opened his eyes. We clapped for him.

"Picture with the parents please!" the photographer said

Kinarga ni Xander si Nicco, kinuha ko ang cake at tumabi sa kanila. I smiled happily.

"One, two, three, smile!"

The photographer took 3 more photos and after that sinenyasan ko ang MC na pwede na kumain.

"Let us now pray before we eat...."

Mama Lou was the one to lead the prayer. Everyone is here. My parents, Gerica, Xander's parents, Luke and Xander's friends. Our distant relatives was also there. We also invited Nicco's Teacher and his classmates along with their parents. Nicco is already in kindergarten. Some of xander's business partners were also at the party and some are our neighbors.

I didn't work, i became a housewife. I was very hands-on in taking care of Nicco, i didn't want to regret not taking care of him as a child. I don't want him to grow up longing for our love and affection.

Nicco is a happy-go-lucky and energetic kid. He looks so much like his father but he got his eyes from me. Singkit. He can speak Italian, Korean, English and Tagalog.

I held Niccos hand and guided him on how to slice his birthday cake. The theme of his 5th birthday is 'Cars'. He really really likes Lightning McQueen. He even says 'Kachow' every time he's ending a conversation. His bedroom is full of Toy Cars and his bed is shaped like a racecar, his blanket,bpillowcase and bedsheet is Lightning McQueen. We held the party at the backyard of our house since sobrang laki nito. Mama Lou, Gerica and Mommy helped me organize the party.

"Mommy, we sliced Lightning McQueen." he said while staring at his Lightning McQueen shaped cake. I really hope he will soon stop his obsession with 'Cars'.

"Baby, it's just a cake. It's made for us to eat. Ofcourse, we would slice it." I laughed and he pouted.

"Daddy! I wanna open my gifts now, may i?"

I looked at Xander and he looked at me with questioning eyes. Umiling ako, hindi pa kasi kumakain si Nicco. He keeps on staring at the table full of his birthday gifts.

"No, not yet, nicco. Kumain ka muna and then play with your friends. We'll open the gifts later, l'hai preso?" (Did you get it?)

"Okay."

I smiled while looking at them. I hope we will stay the same.

"Now baby, say ahh." sabi ko

"Ahhh..." Nicco obliged and sinubuan ko siya ng pasta.

"Kaya mo na kumain mag-isa, nicco?" sabi ng biglang sumulpot na Gerica

"Yes po, mamita! Look!" kinuha ni nicco ang fork saking kamay at nagsimulang kumain mag-isa.

Tinawanan lang siya ni Gerica at lumingon sa amin ni Xander. "You two should eat, ako na bahala kay birthday boy, okay?"

Bago pa ko makasagot ay hinawakan na ni Xander ang kamay ko. "Okay, thank you." sagot niya kay Gerica at hinila na ako papunta sa mga pagkain.

Kumuha kami ng sarili naming pagkain at inaya niya akong maupo kasama sina Loyle.

"Hi lovebirds." bati nila sa amin.
