"This is Tyson Levi Costner." Drew announced with a huge grin. He held up the biggest baby Chloe had ever seen. He was huge. Patrick had not been kidding when he said she'd had a giant baby. How on earth did that fit in there? Then again he didn't. She wasn't thrilled about a lot of things and wasn't feeling particularly lucky in her situation. But looking at the huge infant in Drew's hands Chloe said a silent prayer of thanks that he came out when he did.
"How on earth did that come out of me?" she thought allowed gawking at her own baby. He didn't feel like he was hers. Wasn't she supposed to feel this crazy connection and urge to hold him? Maybe it would kick in later.
"That's all you have to say?" Drew was not happy about her response, but what did he want her to say? Feeling guilty for not adoring her baby she pasted a small smile on her.
"He's beautiful?" she offered.
"Yes, he is." Drew smiled at him again with pride. "He will grow to be a big and strong young man. I cannot wait. He must sleep in our room with us. I want him with me as much as possible."
That only made her feel worse. DREW had love for this child and she didn't. HER. The one who grew this kid in her body. Wasn't there supposed to be something?
"Are you sure you want him in our room?" she asked hoping he'd change his mind. Drew's head snapped toward her so fast it scared her. "I just know how busy and important you are. You need your rest." she added.
He pondered this for a moment. "Well . . . we'll see how it goes. If it ends up being too much we'll have Sophie take the night shifts." The baby squirmed around in his arms.
He could move so much. Is a newborn supposed to move that much? He didn't look like a newborn. She questioned for a moment if she'd only been out for a few hours like they'd told her.
"What size clothes does he wear?"
"3 to 6 months."
Her eyes grew huge. "I'm sorry. What?!"
Drew chuckled as he began to walk around the room bouncing the baby in his arms. "Oh come one, Chloe, you know this is no ordinary baby. He's not going to grow at a normal rate by any means."
The thought of that scared her. How fast would he grow? Would it hurt him? She hated the thought of watching this poor baby suffer because his dad is a mad scientist. That's what he is! A mad scientist! Oh Shit! I'm married to a mad scientist. . . and there is no way out. Goosebumps ran up her arms as she suddenly became very cold. She watched Drew walk around his attention fully on the child. Fear flooded her veins. She didn't know him. She didn't know what he was capable of. And something told her she didn't want to know what he was capable of.
He looked up at her. And she jumped slightly. He smiled at her in a friendly way but his eyes seemed to be holding secrets. The sight of him scared the living crud out of her. His presence was unnerving and she wished he would just leave.
"Itching to hold him?" he mistook her fear for eagerness. She nodded reluctantly. He stepped closer to her and the tension in her body became almost unbearable. Please, Just Go. she begged him in her head. Instead he leaned down to place a hefty child in her arms, brushing her boobs before finding a seat to sit in and watch her.
"Enjoying the view?" she asked jokingly even though she was incredibly uncomfortable.
"Very much so." he smiled at her. His smile reached his eyes and was very warm, comforting even. That just scared her even more. That meant 1) he was a psychopath and 2) he was infatuated with her and most likely wouldn't let her go.
