Commencement

It was a Saturday in the middle of March

and my heart had no idea how to feel,

when I saw you at that bookstore.

Nervous,

I was,

as you started walking in my direction,

completely unaware of the crumbling mess of a human being,

as aisle away from you.

I was going to leave, I swear,

I was going to leave.

But then I thought,

what an insult to fate that would be--

as insult to me, to deny myself the chance

to speak to a goddess.

When you got a little closer,

you finally noticed me

I immediately transformed my awkward posture

into a stance worth of your presence.

Your teeth caught your bottom lip

oh so familiarly,

and I cleared my throat.

I never knew a simple "hello,"

would commence something so strong.
