Chapter 4
He freezes still opposite me, his face's palm, his whole body shaking. "M-," his voice rumbles. "My f, father?"
---
We walk down the same street we've passed last night on our way to the bar. It's not as freezing as it was before. Every breath I let out draws a smoke in the air.
I trust Aiden wherever he's taking me, besides, he knows New York better than me. He definitely knows what he's doing.
"Well, where do you want to go?" He asks, elbowing me.
I guess he doesn't really know what we're going. Or why we're even here."I thought we're on our way to somewhere," I narrow my eyes. "I thought you know where we're going!" I bump his shoulder with mine.
"No, I don't." He defends himself. "Besides, I said earlier that you decide where we're going. So basically I was following you all along."
"No, you didn't tell me." I look at him, confused. "And also, what are you expecting from a clueless new girl?"
"Nothing." He shakes his head.
I mouth him, "what?" the hell.
This guy is weird, I'm telling you. What did he mean by that, seriously?
"Well, I know a place," He finally gets me out of my thoughts. "There." He points at a modern cafe at the end of the street. And it's still a long way down.
"You sure?" I cock my head.
"Trust me." He nods. "Besides, you don't really know any other place. Do you?"
"Okay, Mr. Knows-everything." I roll my eyes and follow his steps.
I try to catch up, but his steps are wide and fast, wearing flats doesn't even help me to walk faster. I'm too tiny.
"Slow down," I shout from few steps behind him, begging. "I can't walk faster." My breaths are uneven. I bend my knees.
"Are you okay?" He runs towards me, looking worried. "Hey, what's wrong?"
"Nothing," I shake my hand. "Just don't walk too fast." I get up and start walking.
"I didn't know I was walking too fast," his face still looks worried. "I'm sorry."
"It's fine." I breathe. "Let's keep walking."
"Yeah, it's already near." He walks beside me, finally slower.

After few minutes walking in a really slow pace we finally get into the cafe. Evelyn's Kitchen & Cafe, the sign says. I wonder how Evelyn looks like, maybe a bit short with curled blonde hair and red lips? I also wonder if Evelyn cooks well.
The bell above the door rings as we come inside. A brunette waitress quickly approaches us, she's wearing a typical cafe uniform and a roller-blade. Pretty cute.
"Two people?" She gestures, asking us.
"Yes, please." I nod.
"This way." She turns around and roller-blades across the room as we follow her steps. We are seated at the corner of the cafe, near the window.
"One spicy beef steak with mashed potatoes." I say, pointing at one of the picture at the menu. "Extra cheese, please?"
"And a bacon and cheese with sunny side-up for me." He hands the menu to the waitress and she leaves.
Soon, another waitress comes to our table holding two pitchers. "Coffee?" She gestures, "Tea?"
"Coffee, please." I push my cup to the corner of the table to make it easier for her to pour the coffee.
