I looked at Dally, and for once, I saw emotion in his face. "Hey, they'll be okay, Brooke is tuff." I said to him. He looked like he could cry, but it's Dally, so he wouldn't. "But what if they're not okay!" He snapped at me. Not out of anger, just frustration. "I'm sorry, it's just, Johnny- man he can't survive like that. And the kid- (I knew he was referring to Ponyboy) he won't last a day." He was right. "That's why Brooke felt she needed to go, to help them. You can't blame her it's her baby brother." He looked down. He knew I was right. "I know, I know. It's just- I love her man, I can't loose her again." Did he just say what I think I just heard?! "Hold up- did you just say the word 'love'. I thought Dallas Winston didn't 'love' anything." He looked at me with a super stern expression. "You tell anyone you heard that, you're dead. Got it Randle?" "Got it." I decided to ask him the question that had been hanging over my head since they left. "Um how do we tell Soda and Darry?" He looked up at me with wide eyes. "What do ya mean kid?! We're not telling anyone about this okay?!" Man he must really not want anyone to know. Not even Pony and Brooke's own brothers. "Dally, you don't understand- I was cut off by him. "Yes, Simone, I do. If you let anyone, and I mean anyone, know about this- you risk Johnny getting the electric chair, Ponyboy and Brooklyn going to jail for hiding out with him, and guess what- YOU and I being thrown in jail too for knowing where they are and me giving them the gun!" Wow. That was a lot to take in. "So NOW do you get why you can't go run and tell Sodapop and Darry where they are?!" "Yes. I'm sorry." "It's okay kid. Sorry for yellin" "Its okay Dal." I decided to go home. I should apologize to Steve for storming out like I did, and I couldn't lie to Soda about Pony and Brooke. Not right now at least. "Hey i'm just gonna go home, try and get some sleep, for Brooke?" "Yea yea I'll try man." And with that I was on my way back home. I walked in the door and it looked almost like Steve had been crying. He doesn't cry too much so I wondered if he really cared that much about me. He turned and looked at me when he heard the door shut behind me. He immediately stood up and I ran to him and hugged him. I don't know why, I just started crying. I felt horrible for yelling at him. After a bit, he let go. He started to apologize. "Simone I am so sorry I- I cut him off. "No. Steve. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you like that, and I shouldn't have just stormed out." He just shook his head. "I want you to tell me everything. Everything that happened with Randy, everything about you and Soda, everything that has been going on. I told him to sit down because this was gonna be a long one. I told him everything that had happened. Randy beating me up, Soda saving me from getting beat up even more, and some of the details about Soda and I's date. By the end of it I had to close his jaw shut because it had been hanging open since the part about Randy beating me up. "Wow. I- All I can say is, wow." I kinda just looked down. "Look, first of all, Randy is a dead son of a bitch the next time I see him. Second, if you and Soda are serious, I will allow it BUT y'all are not allowed to break up because I am NOT about to have to choose between my best friend and my sister. Got it?" Fair enough. "Okay" I decided to go to bed. I was exhausted. "I'm gonna go to bed, goodnight Stevie." I said hugging him. "Goodnight Sim." And with that I was off to my bedroom. The rest of the night all I could think about was Johnny, Ponyboy, and mostly, Brooklyn. I just really hope they're doing okay...
