Chapter Three - The Wish

"Hanako~San, Hanako~San... Are you there?"

Yashiro placed her hands together and slowly closed her eyes.

'I knew it! I'm so foolish!'

Yashiro thought to herself while keeping her eyes closed. She didn't want to open them as she was afraid of her supposed failure. She began to think of all the ways to tell Aoi of her failure and how it was just a silly rumor. After a few moments, Yashiro gathered up her courage and began to open her eyes in order to head back.

"I'm here~"

"Eh?" Yashiro froze upon opening her eyes. She began to feel horrified and couldn't move any more. 'A-A-A-A hand!?'  Reflectively, Yashiro placed her hands in front of her for protection and shut her eyes, not wanting to see the dangers the hand could bring.

'H-Huh? Nothing is happening?'  Yashiro opened her eyes cautiously. She was glad that no one was there but felt uneasy. 'It was probably just my imagination! Yeah! That's it!'

"Behind you~!"  Whispered an unknown voice while placing their hand on Yashiro's shoulder.

"Eek!" Yashiro shouted and attempted to hit the person behind her but failed and fell into the lake. Yashiro quickly tried to grab the upside down boat with her hand and reach up to breathe.

"Heh.. Heh.. Hahahah~!"

'A giggle or laugh?'  Yashiro looked towards a figure. In mere seconds, she suddenly felt happy and relieved.

"Are you alright?"  The person said as they floated upside down and went close to Yashiro.

"Ah... I'm fine." Yashiro couldn't help but stare at the person. She noticed some features as she inspected their appearance. "W-Who are you?"

"Me?"

"I'm Hanako-San of the Lake! Pleasure to meet you!"

"HANAKO-SAN!?" Yashiro shouted in shock. "B-But! You look different.. It's impossible!!"

"Huh?"  Hanako tilted her  head in confusion.

"Where's your white and red kimono!? You look too young! Are you even 14? And what's up your ankles!" Yashiro immediately got the small boat facing the correct way and climbed on top of it.

'Ankles..?'  Hanako thought. "Well... I have a different colored kimono and I am fourteen. Also.. Why ankles?"

"N-No reason!" Yashiro quickly answered.

"Well, aside from a few different details, the stories you've heard of me are all true. I grant wishes for those who succeed in summoning me for a price. You have a wish, don't you? What is it?" Hanako explained as she  floated slightly above the water.

"How do I know... you're not just some weird and creepy girl who lives here?" Yashiro asked with a slightly disgusted expression on her face.

"..."

"Bye."

"W-Wait! I was joking! Of course you're not a weirdo! You have a dragon tail and can float! T-that's amazing!" Yashiro quickly shouted.

"Amazing huh.."

"Okay! Tell me your name and wish!" Hanako took out a piece of paper and a pen to write with.

'I never took out the creep part..'  Yashiro raised her hand and began to talk. "Right! My name is Yashiro Nene and I want Minamoto~Senpai to fall in love with me!"
