Chang Lane Back story. Chang Land comes from a poor Eldian family that lived in Liberio. He is oldest of 8 children and raised under poor condition. His parents had work as farmers doing crops for Marley and is able to keep 20% of the merchandise they grow and sale. The Lane family started living a quiet fun life but they ended going through hell.
Around the time Chang was 13 years old his parents took him and his siblings out for a picnic. During this a group of anti-Eldian group robbed their house, bomb their lands, and crops. None of the neighbors would revealed who did it fearing Marley wrath and the Marley officers swept it under the rugged. Now financially bankrupt and food starting to become scarce the Lane's problem had worsen . No one would higher either parent and the Lanes had tried to sell anything they had left clothes, toys, and anything for food and medicine.
Week by week they started starving and getting sick. Chang three youngest sibling died of starvation and in order to live the survivors ate their corpse except Chang, who couldn't do it ate bugs and rodents he would try to catch instead. Soon chaos started happening between family Chang mother who couldn't bear to keep witnessing this savagery, desperation, and hunger committed suicide which made Chang father go insane and started to kill the rest of the children thinking death was better then how they were living.
Chang became the only survivor who fled before his father could kill him. Chang running blindly, who still weak from starvation, dehydration, and trauma fainted in front of the carriage that carry Nambia, Reader, and Reese. The three girls were coming to Liberio to give clothes to the poor and that Reese insisted hey had to do it that day. Reader spotted Chang and she ask her mom if they could go back and get a doctor. Reader gave Chang her bottle water to keep him hydrate and kept giving him reassurance that he will be alright and Reese kept parting his head.
Chang woke up screaming despite the nurse trying to reassure him until Reese slap him. Namibia ask who was he and what happen to him which Chang broke down crying and told them his situation which left everyone horrified and outrage. Namibia demand Willy to investigate and arrest the men who bomb Chang house. Reader and Reese assured Chang that he could stay with them and they would help heal him the best they could. There was a scream outside which Willy Tybur and Nambia see a craze man with a bloodied knife demanding Chang but had been quickly been shot by the guards. Chang hearing the gunshot started crying and Reader just hold and rocked Chang telling him that he not alone and won't go through that ever again as long as she lived and for once Chang felt safe.
Chang nows travels with Reader, Nambia, and Reese and go to school with them too getting educated. Chang got interested in martial arts and got Reese and Reader interested in martial art too. Chang found out he is descendant of the Ackerman clan and all three get train by them and become allies.
