As Kanao stepped in, the loud chatter turned into a sea of whispers.
"Hello, Kanao! Take a seat, please, " The teacher flashed her a smile.
Kanao bowed before taking her assigned seat near the teacher, a pencil was already on top of it.
The teacher glared at the people who were very clearly gawking at Kanao.
The teacher muttered under her breath, asking her if she was okay.
Kanao smiled, nodding diligently.
The teacher frowned but reluctantly sighed as she started class.
"I heard that Tsuyuri Kanao had a breakdown in class."
The other one snickered, "What really? I thought she was some self-proclaimed ice queen."
Kanao kept a transparent smile as snide remarks and mocking comments were thrown her direction.
"She always acts so high and mighty. Serves her right, "
Kanao kept her gaze on the teacher, one hand silently gripping a pencil as the other laid stiffly against her desk.
"I know right? What a drama queen, whoever raised her did an awful job, "
Kanao smiled, gripping her pencil, trying to drown out the voices.
A sharp snap filled the room, and the air hung heavy as silence enveloped the room.
Kanao looked down in surprise.
Her now-white knuckles were clutching a broken pencil.
She released her grip as the two singular halves landed onto her desk.
Kanao stood up, "I'm sorry, could I go back to my locker and get a new pencil."
The teacher didn't answer for a second before glancing at the clock.
The sound of a bell erupted through the school, only lasting a few seconds.
The teacher snapped out of her trance, "Oh well, there's no need. Everyone's dismissed!"
Kanao gave her an indecipherable smile before walking towards the door.
"Thank you, Sensei."
The voices of the student body returned as they gradually started getting up to leave.

Kanao's unhealthy habit of skipping meals arose as she decided against purchasing any food from the cafeteria.
She scurried to the rooftop, relishing in the silence and emptiness.
A slightly unsteady hand clenched the shaky iron fence that surrounded the rooftop.
Her fingers grasping through the perfect fitting holes in the fence, Kanao stared out at the clear, blue sky.
Kanao moved away from the fence and sat onto the wooden bench.
Raising her hand, Kanao contemplated her hand's trembling, even as she tried to get it to still, it wouldn't.
