Chapter 2

It's been a few days and I have stayed close to Adelita. The guys have been around every day and each day, Gilly tries to talk to me but I don't let my guard down. I start bringing in more firewood for the fireplace and as I start loading up wood in my arms, Gilly comes over and says "Here." and reaches for the load in my arms. "I got it. Thanks." I say as I walk past him, keeping my head down. He grabs more and follows me inside. I put down what I have and head back outside and he follows me to help me get more. After the second load inside, I walk out to start checking some of the other houses to see who needs wood and he follows me. I don't speak and he finally grabs my arm gently and I flinch and pull away from him and start to walk again. "Hey." he says and reaches for me again and I finally stop but don't look at him. He moves in front of me and asks "Can we talk?" I nod but don't look at him still and he asks "Why won't you look at me?" I shake my head and say "Just trying to earn my keep here until I figure out where I'm going next." I tell him and start to walk again and he starts following me. "We won't let him hurt you. I won't let him hurt you." he tells me and I stop. I turn to face him and say "This isn't your problem." I tell him and he steps closer. "You're one of us now. You don't have to keep running." he tells me and I look up at him. He steps closer again and says "I won't let him hurt you again." before placing his hand on my cheek and I let him. "Gilly this isn't your fight. I just have to stay hidden." I tell him. "Just don't hide from me." he tells me and I nod.

He helps me get wood to the rest of the little houses on the compound and when we head back to the main house where I'm staying, we walk in and Adelita asks "Everyone good?" I nod and say "Got everyone covered for the night." I tell her and she nods. "Wanna sit outside?" Gilly asks and I nod before heading back towards the door and see Adelita and Angel smiling.

We get outside and move to sit around where the bonfire was and he lights it. Sitting down next to me and we sit in silence. "Why are you so nice to me Gilly?" I ask finally. "Why wouldn't I be?" he asks. "You don't know me." I tell him. "But I will. If you let me." he tells me and I look over at him. "Why would you want to know me?" I ask and he takes my hand and says "Just something about you." He tells me and I feel him playing with my fingers. "Will you tell me about your scars?" he asks. I pull my hand from his and say "He used to get off on torturing me. Would cut me just to watch me bleed. Sliced my cheek on my birthday. Got drunk one night and his best friend said something about sharing me and when I said no, he got pissed. Beat me up and slit my throat. I would have bled out but his best friend called the ambulance. They told the cops someone broke in and attacked me." I tell him. "How did you escape?" he asks. "He stayed by my side while I was in a coma but when I woke up and was able to function a little, they told him that they needed him to sign more paperwork for my stay and while he was gone, I snuck out. Grabbed some scrubs and slipped out of the hospital and hid. Stole what clothes I have and ate out of dumpsters and wherever else I could until Adelita found me." I tell him. He reaches for my hand and says "You don't have to hide anymore. We'll protect you." he tells me and I look at our hands. "Gilly, I don't know how to let anyone help me. I've been on the run so long. It won't be long before I'll have to leave again." I tell him. "What if you didn't?" he asks as he laces his fingers with mine. "Gilly..." I start. "Just think about it." he says and I nod.

A few days later, we are in town, getting supplies and the guys are with us and Gilly is next to me as usual. He doesn't go far when the guys are with us. We are looking in one of the little bodegas and I am headed down an aisle to get something for Adelita when I see someone I didn't want to see. I quickly turn and walk back as fast as I can. I get back to Adelita and she sees me panicked. "I have to go." I tell her. She nods and I head out the door with Gilly and EZ right behind me. I turn a corner and hide in an alley when Gilly and EZ corner me. Gilly is in front of me and I'm in the midst of a panic attack. "Breathe for me babe. Come on. Match my breaths." he tells me and I start to calm down but don't let go of his arms and he doesn't let go of my face. "Talk to me." he says. "He's here." I tell him and he pulls me to him. After a minute, he cups my face and says "Let EZ take you back to the compound and lay low. What's he wearing?" he asks. "No. Gilly, don't." I tell him. Kissing my lips softly, surprising me, he says "Tell me what he's wearing." I pull away and say "Green jacket, black cap with a wolf on the front. Jeans. Name's Derek." I tell him. He kisses me one more time and says "Your mine Maleah." and I nod. He looks at EZ and he says "I got her." and he leads me down the alley and out the back of it to another street to get me to the compound.

Gilly walks inside and up to Angel. "She okay?" he asks. "Yeah. Prospect is getting her to the compound." Gilly says and looks around and as soon as he sees Derek, he hears Angel tell Adelita "Head back to the truck and wait on us." She nods and does as he asks. "I'm with you." Angel says and Gilly nods.

They follow Derek outside and as soon as he gets around the corner, Gilly shoves him into an alley. "What the..." he says before Gilly shoves him into a wall. "Shut the fuck up." Angel says and Derek asks "What's this about?" Gilly steps forward and says "You're the one that tortured my Old Lady." He looks at Gilly and asks "Who's your Old Lady?" Gilly's jaw twitches and Angel says "Maleah." and Derek's eyes go wide. "Where is she?" he asks and steps forward, looking around. Gilly shoves him back to the wall and says "Don't matter where she is. You don't get to fucking come near her again." Derek glares at him and ask "What the fuck are you gonna do?" Gilly smirks and says "I'm gonna do to you what you did to her." and you see Derek stiffen.

Gilly punches Derek and knocks him out. They tie him up and drag him to the truck and put him in the back. "We gotta make a stop mi amor." Angel tells Adelita. "No. Bring him to the compound. We can burn him." she says and he smirks. "Thank you." Gilly tells her and she nods. They head to the compound and to the back of the property.

They get to the back of the property and pull Derek out of the truck and toss him to the ground. Angel takes the knife out of the truck and hands it to Gilly. "Have at it brother." Pablo walks up with a couple of other guys. "Help her to the house." Angel says and one of the guys helps Adelita to the house. Pablo and Juan step over and ask "Who's he?" Angel says "Fucker that gave Maleah her scars." That's all he had to say. Pablo gets some rope and stakes out of the truck and says "Let's tie him up." They spread him out and tie him up and Gilly goes about slicing up his body. His mouth is bound so his screams are muffled. When Gilly thinks he's had enough, he slits his throat and Angel starts pouring gas on him and they light him up.

The guys come back to the house and as soon as they walk in, Gilly asks "Where is she?" EZ says "Bedroom. Minnie is with her." Gilly walks to the door and opens it slowly. As soon as I see him, Minnie leaves and he walks over to me. I stand up and he pulls me close and says "You don't have to run anymore." I look up at him and he kisses me softly and I say "Thank you Gilly." He kisses me one more time and says "You're mine." I wrap my arms around him and say "I'm yours."
