thirteen.
"Taehyun?"
Yeonjun and Beomgyu both tensed upon hearing the name. "How-How are you alive?" Beomgyu asked in disbelief.
"It's a matter of acting. You all should give me an oscar," Taehyun answered.
Then his expression dropped.
"Beomgyu..." He started. "You thought you could kill me so easily, huh?"
Taehyun couldn't control the pressure of his hold on the knife due to the burning anger he'd felt at the moment, drawing a bit of blood from Beomgyu's neck.
----
"I'm so sorry, Taehyun..."
Taehyun stayed still, even going as far as to not breathe so that he wouldn't be caught. Once Beomgyu covered him in the blanket, he could finally release the breath he was holding for so long, but only a little at a time. He still had to act as if he was dead.
He sure thought Beomgyu was dumb for not checking his pulse.
----
"Now release Hueningkai," Taehyun told Yeonjun, pushing the knife harder.
Yeonjun let go of his hold on Hueningkai and raised his hands as he slowly turned around to face Taehyun. Beomgyu followed and turned around as well, taking a good look at the boy in front of them.
"Yeonjun-hyung, what did you do to Soobin-hyung?" Taehyun asked, still pointing the knives at the two.
"I-I..."
"What did you do!?"
"Taehyun, calm down." Hueningkai walked forward, hoping to make the boy calm down. He couldn't blame Taehyun's reaction though, after what Beomgyu did.
It all felt like a nightmare they couldn't escape from.
"You trapped Soobin-hyung to die in a burning room!"
Yeonjun looked ashamed. Remorse was apparent on his face. "If I could go back, I wouldn't have done it."
"Then why did you do it in the first place?"
"Because of your conversation with—"
"Shut up."
More smoke filled the room to the point that it was suffocating. The fire from the kitchen had spread to the other rooms and the living room would be the last to burn down. They had to escape. It was now or never.
"We have to go. Now!" Yeonjun yelled but Taehyun remained unwavering.
"It's too late for that," Taehyun answered, gesturing to the front door.
Soobin stood there.
He was pouring the last bit of the gasoline left inside the can, the tiny drops serving as a reminder to Yeonjun. Of what he did to Soobin. What Yeonjun didn't know was that Soobin had more cans of gas stocked somewhere.
"Hey." Soobin walked closer and opened the door, wide enough for them to easily escape.
"Soobin? How did you escape? I-I saw you there. You were tied, surrounded by fire..." Yeonjun's eyes widened as he fell down on his knees in disbelief.
Soobin smirked, "Bold of you to assume that I don't know every inch of this house. There's an emergency exit in the kitchen because of how prone to accidents it is and as for the rope, I have tools in the sink cabinet. How funny you didn't notice it."
Just like what Yeonjun did before, Soobin raised the matchbox and rattled it, smiling to himself as if the sound was melody to his ears.
"Hyung...no," Beomgyu pleaded.
Yeonjun was about to stand up but he felt something solid being pointed at his head, the sound of the safety turned off. "Whatever you're thinking about, drop it," Taehyun spoke.
"A-A gun?" Beomgyu stuttered, his eyes widening in shock. "Taehyun...since when did you own a gun?"
Taehyun clicked his tongue, feeling annoyed. "I'll shoot anyone who tries to do anything weird," he threatened.
Taehyun backed away and moved over to the doorway, leaning his back on the wall. Soobin walked over and placed himself beside Taehyun.
Yeonjun looked up, feeling horrified in realization.
"You two planned this?"
