"Pride. Pretense. Hypocrisy," Mr Chima was telling us, "these three things lead us to just one place: nowhere. Yes. Why would someone act proud infront of his peers? To be famous? To be liked? No no, it literally leads you nowhere. Because after all those efforts you'll find yourself?" He asked.

"Nowhere," we all replied in unison.

Susie, Kevin, Favour, Divine, Chelsea, Miracle and I were in another one of our Christian religious classes. We were arguing about what happened in the school recently.

Three students were expelled from school. The top notch of the school, Jessica, Lawrence, Jeff and Ivy.

"I never knew Ivy was like that, she was the one that always told me to stop looking at boys that way," Susie said. That was how the argument started.

"Ivy is innocent. It's all Jessica's fault. I'm not surprised if she forced Ivy to do such nasty things," I said defending Ivy. She was close to me, though she stayed with them more. She was cool to hang out with.

"You keep saying that cause you think you guys were 'close', she was probably just using you," Susie said.

"How can a girl use me? See, Susie I don't like that stuffs, don't say that," I said frustrated.

"Nnah, you girls should calm down nah," Chelsea stood up on the stool to say. He was still short though.

" I don't get how someone would want to be popular just to go back to being nothing once again," Susie said.

"Ivy has always been popular," I said.

"Nnah Munachi shut up nah? Who told you sef? You don't know what you're talking about," Divine chipped in.

"Shaa Munachi is right to me. Jessica forces Ivy from what I've noticed," Favour countered.

"Lawrence and Jessica started it all and Jessica brought Ivy in while Lawrence brought Jeff. It's obvious Susie!" I said.

"Why did they join then? To be famous? You've not seen Ivy after school that's why you're talking like this. Ivy behaves like a saint in school but after school she behaves like someone without a brain!" Susie said.

"Munachi you don't know what you're saying. It's because you go home early. One day I saw them smoking. Smoking!" Divine backed Susie up.

"They never allow anyone in their group," Miracle said for the first time in the conversation.

"Ivy told me not to join because it was dangerous and I couldn't handle it. Talk bout being 'close' again, Susie." I said.

"Jessica is the head, she won't allow sef."

"Ivy was obviously being a hypocrite."

"Hei! Shut up! How can you use my class to talk about nonsense like this?" Mr Chima interrupted.

"Susie started it," I offered, and he began his inspirational talk.

" Look, pride leads to the fall of man. That, every body knows. Those kids were going into the wrong path but you all must learn from their mistakes. Pride leads you nowhere. Humble yourselves at all times and God said it, you'll be given a place in his heart."

"Uncle what of Ivy? She was humble too."

"Humility doesn't show on the face, Munachi. The fact that someone acts humble infront of you and acts rude in front of others doesn't make the person humble. That's pretense. It's like living more than one life.

How would you like to have so many identities? Let me say, infront of Susie you're kind, infront of Kevin you're mean infront of another person you're a bully. Do you think you can cope with that kind of life? That's exactly how Ivy was."

"I pity for Lawrence and Jeff. They always warned us not to go near Jessica and Ivy," Kevin said.

"Hypocrisy."

"They seemed to have been protecting us, Uncle. I think they did the right thing," Kevin emphasized.

"Telling someone to not do something when you, you're doing it. Don't you think it's wrong?"

"How?"

"Let me say there's a pen, a magic pen that you found with your friend. But he tells you, let's not touch it Incase it's bad,and you comply. Both of you will leave but your friend comes and steals the magic pen.

After, he'll tell you that he just wanted to 'see' it so that nothing would happen to you, but by then he must've sold it.

Look, keep away from these frivolities and learn from others mistakes."

"Yes sir," we said in unison.

"The class is dismissed."

After that we left.

Sooo look, if you didn't understand, just know that I'm trying to say that you don't have to pretend infront of people to make friends or to feel normal. Be as abnormal as you want, I you're sure that's really how you are.

I dislike people who pretend to be good but deep down they maybe rotten. Yah I don't mean it in that way. If you see your flaws, correct them, but don't pretend so much that it seems like you're living triple lives: at home, in school, and among peers.

Also hypocrisy. It's funny how someone can laugh at you for doing something when he or she must've done much much worse than you. Hypocrisy doesn't always involve actions, too but it's very bad.

I know sometimes, you won't realize that you're doing something you've told someone not to do, but like Jesus said in the Bible, before you remove the dirt in someone's eyes, remove the one's in your eyes first.

Thank you!
