Chapter 9

Emily's P.O.V

Toby.. I think back to the times I tried to find him. But, what if Ezra's different? The only person who cares about him is Aria, so none of us are going to fight for him. Ezra is going to be accused of something that might not be true.

"Aria, it's not real proof. It doesn't show anything, Spencer's right" I say, someone has to have hope. She looks at me. "What if he disappears like Toby did? What happens if '-A' kills him for getting caught. What if-" I stop Aria. " I think it's time to show her the proof."

Aria moves towards her handbag in her desk. Getting out her phone and clicking on the text from Ezra. "This is before I saw him at Hanna's" I say. Spencer reads the text. "Don't go anywhere! Come to my place later" Spencer reads aloud.

Aria turns away. "You're handling this better than I did!" Spencer replies. Aria looks at her and curls up in the corner if her bed. "Ir maybe I'm taking a different approach" mumbles Aria. "What?" Spencer says. " I'm just saying. just because I'm not reacting the way you did doesn't mean I'm fine with this. ' Sure Ezra! Be '-A' no worries' " Aria replies. Spencer raises an eyebrow at her. "Look!" I intervene "what happened to investigating? "Why do we always Jump to conclusions now?"

Everyone looks at me thoughtfully. Then for the first time in a while Hanna speaks. "Emily's right, we never investigate anymore, hardly. We just jump to conclusions, and then find out by '-A'- Ezra - Whoever they bloody are, the truth an get warned. I'm sick of it, we're going to have something bad happen to us either way!" Hanna finishes. We all stare at her. "What?!" She responds.

All of a sudden, the familiar harmony of all our phones buzzing starts. Aria looks as if she is going to cry, Hanna rolls her eyes, Spencer just reaches into her bag and I copy. Having big emotions after stuff like this baits '-A' she knows we're scared, or afraid, or cocky, and then she/he'll put us in our place.

I look down at the text. "Hey Em, It's Ben! WannA go down to the
brew?", That's the text?

Hanna reads hers aloud. "hey Hanna, it's cAleB! Wanna gO DOwn To the bRRew? KiSs kisS.

Spencer follows. "Hey spenC, it's tOby! WannA go Down to The bREw?"

Everyone looks at Aria. Who is hers from? "Umm... It says 'Hey Aria, It's EzrA! Wanna go down to the brew?"

But all our faces look scared. "Hang on..." I trail off "Can we look at all of our texts?"

Everyone puts there phones down on the table. Spencer's face lights up. "Okay Hanna can I see yours?" Spencer asks. As I look at her text I can see various letters have been capitalised. Spencer grabs a piece of paper from Arias desk and I separate lines writes down all the capital letters in order:

C O A D T R E

She looks at the letters thoughtfully. "Redcoat" I say. "What?" Spencer asks. "The second one, your one, it's Redcoat!"

Spencer looks at it again:
C O A D T R E
Then she rearranges it:
R E D C O A T
"I never knew you were good at un jumbling letters" Spencer says suprised. "And my one is obviously Boardshorts" Hanna says.
Spencer rewrites Hanna's one to prove that she is right:
B O A R D S O R T S
"Where's the H?" Aria says after a while of silence. "Hanna, is there capital H's in your text?" Spencer asks. Hanna looks at her text and nods "My name" she replies. "So there you go that make Boardshorts."

"What about mine and Arias?" I ask confused. "Yours both have capital As" Spencer replies. "Hang on, so your meeting Redcoat, Hanna's meeting Boardshorts and Aria and I are meeting A?" I ask. "Probably two different As" Hanna replies "I'm pretty sure we now know how many people are on the -A team, four, for each of us..."

My phone buzzes. I read it 'Roses are red, baby boys are blue, if only you could see which one is inside of you!' -A.

They all look at my text. "No, don't" I say. "Why?" They ask. "Because."
