When you woke up you saw your book laying on the floor. 'Thank goodness it didn't fall in a way that would damage the pages.' Laying it on the bedside you looked at the time.

'08:03'

'Hm, early' you thought. Your shift didn't begin until lunch. Deciding on reading new scientific techniques on acquiring data from flora you grabbed your PADD and went to get a bite in the mess hall. You usually had breakfast alone since your shift didn't fit your friends', not that you minded. It gave you time to think and relax all the while sipping tea.

After reading a few reports about those new techniques, you went to your room to write out an idea that could maybe help in analysing new data. It could make the acquirement of the data more efficient and reliable while making the analysation of the data easier.

This would give you bonus points with your superiors, which made you pause. You liked being a wallflower, people not really noticing you, which means they don't talk to you. Just a few friends were enough for you.

What if this idea turned out to be a bad one, and would backfire in the future because of certain complications? 'Then make sure it can't and won't backfire.' You thought fiercely to yourself as you continued working on your potentially good upgrade. 'Besides, if I have second thoughts, I can wait with introducing this to my superiors.'

You continued researching a way the upgrade could be viable and would work without any setbacks. Researching and coming up with a new idea like this gave you a thrilling feeling. You became even more determined to solve this puzzle as you came closer to the possibility that your idea could truly work. Remodulating the frequencies of the tricorder wouldn't work but the way the data is recorded could be made more efficient by inserting a different formula. Which is... a whole lot of work.

At lunch you sat with Sylvia, but no Burnham. As you walked to the redhead with your plate of food you looked at her with a questioning look. "Michael's brother is on board," she said promptly with an excited face, "I've never seen him or met him, but he's a Vulcan. I wonder what kind of person he is."

You also wondered how he would be, since you've never met a Vulcan. Having heard of their stoicism you hoped he wouldn't be too intimidating. Trying to talk with someone who doesn't show their emotions didn't sound like an easy task. Burnham was a bit intimidating for you in the beginning but once she loosened up, you felt a lot more comfortable.

You did learn about Vulcan culture in the Academy but nevertheless you never met one. So you were quite curious. In the Academy you learned about the Vulcan greeting and their dedication to the teachings of Surak. They lived their lives dedicated to logic and controlling their emotions. At first you didn't know why they would want to live their lives without emotion but after reading what their past was like you understood and admired them. To be able to control or suppress such strong emotions must need a tremendous amount of discipline.

The two of you were giggling about funny things Tilly heard from her peers in the spore drive room. When it was time for your shift you bid her goodbye and went on your way. While walking to your station you looked in a corridor which you were about to walk past.

When looking in the corridor you saw, Captain Pike, Burnham and a young man, with pointy ears and a beard... 'Wait... those pointy ears and straight pose... That's probably the Vulcan Tilly mentioned...' You thought quickly putting the pieces together. While you stared at the Vulcan listening to what the Captain was saying you saw him glance at you. Your gazes locked for less than a second as your view was replaced by a wall.

You looked back in front of you and thought back to those brown eyes and stoic face.

His bit unkempt hair framing his face. His expression unreadable as it didn't betray any emotions.

His straight posture and hands behind his back.

You were sure of one thing.

He was intimidating as hell...
