(reader pov)

These past seven days I've been hiding not just from the ruthless trying to kill but from my decision. My decision is key to my fate in the arena. I could use Finnick's brute strength and an ally but in the end one of us has to go. On the other hand, I could survive on my own but it will cost the good terms I'm on with Finnick. Also I will easily be defeated by District One or Two's male tributes. They practically train everyday, waiting for the moment they are chosen.

Now I sort of have a daily routine. I scavenge for fruit from trees. Also I find long sticks and sharpen them with my knife. This will come in handy as a tool and a weapon. I then reset my trap. By the time it is about noon, I use my newly created spear the spear fish. The trick with spear fishing is to stay in the shadows then plunge in the spear.

Once I catch a fish, I start a small fire and cook the fish over it. I usually do the fire in the cave. It's hard to start because of the dampness but luckily my bag has some matches. I start a small fire and cook the fish. Once I cook the fish, I skin it, pull out the bones from it, take it, and eat it with coconut.

After that, I use the time to start to strategize. Then, I fill up my water jug. Usually, I take a nap in the cave and then night comes. The usual announcement is made. Slowly and surely more are taken out by the ruthless.

The concept of death is always lingering in my mind. I would hate to have a brutal death. I'd rather eat nightlock rather than being stabbed with a dagger being thrown at me.

Now there are only ten people left. My mind is swirling with thoughts of I could kill an innocent person. I know I can't and I decide not to unless they attack me and I have no other choice.

The next morning, I go out to fish when a spear slices through the air on a tree beside me. I turn around to see the boy from District five. He looks scared and I approach him. I can tell he is hungry and I give him some of my left over fish and a papaya.

He looks at me with a strange expression. I know I have to keep my guard up, for this boy is unpredictable. With an expression I can't read and for not talking, he is freaking me out. I realize that he probably doesn't eat papaya or even know what it is. I show him how to eat it and he watches my every move. Then I can't help it I break the eery silence that is tearing me inside out.

I say,"So, you are from district five." He nods. He must be at least twelve since he is super tiny. I ask him,"Do you have any intention of killing me." He stares at me with a look that sends waves of fear crashing through my body. Then to my relief he says," I don't have reason too, besides I heard you moving and I thought you were some wild beast."

He then helps me get some papaya. To my suprise, he climbs really fast. He then shakes the tree then quickly climbs down. As we collect the fruit, a dagger hits the tree next to me. I turn around to see the girl and guy from district two. Uh oh they are careers.

I luckily brought my knife and the boy helping me has a spear. They begin to attack us. I slowly back away. I whisper to the district five boy that I need him to distract and I promise I will save him. I climb a tree and get one of my sticks. I can see the boy dodging their daggers but I can tell he can't move an further. I immediately take one stick at a time and pour the poison from a puffer fish.

I got a puffer fish by fishing in this cove not to far from the pond. A puffer fish has a certain poison, lethal to any human, in fact it could kill up to thirty humans. I shot the darts or really small, sharp sticks. The girl was about to throw her knife him but luckily my aim was true and she fell down.

The boy is smarter and dodges the whistling darts. The he races towards me throwing all sorts of weapons as if he is an assassin. I am not quick as that other boy who helped me out. But he must of got hit in the arm, since blood is trickling down his arm.

As the district four boy is about to give me the finishing blow, I see a trident glistening through the air. That's when I see him. He looks tired but he smirks. We both help the other boy which we found out his name was Rai. We find out he knew how to climb trees because he used to do it with his friends in secret. He is a truly clever person.

He found a way to set an electrical trap around the perimeter of the pond. He even told us that he set up electrical mine fields in another area and some people were about to attack him when they triggered it.

After all of that, Finnick and I talk quietly while Rai sleeps. He says," So have you made your decision." I reply,"I'm willing to carry on with our deal."I've decided to choose Odair over the truth. I need him on my side. He is the light while I am the shadow. I strategize while he carries out the plan. Rai, however will be the key to gaining power over this game.

For some reason, I feel a sense of calmness. But as we all know, it may be the calm before the storm. What if we are the final three? Would I have kill Finnick and Rai to be the victor? My thoughts, like waves, crash into the other. Then my thoughts start to rock my mind. Like a fishing ship about to be over taken by the waves, the waves of my curiosity. I can feel I'm drowning in doubts, then I drift off into sleep.
