Chapter 8: One Night of Peace

Abandoned Building

Artoria, Rin and (F/N) have decided that they will move out first thing tomorrow to move against Gilgamesh. Since the grail will take a long time to summon, they figure that it is best to get some much needed rest before the battle of the next day. Since the abandoned building really is more of a shack and only has one room, they are all stuck in the same room for the night. (F/N) decides that he would like to get to know more about Rin before tomorrow comes.

(F/N): "Rin why is it that you wanted to get the Holy Grail?"

Rin: "I guess for the same reason that every mage wants it, to find the root."

(F/N): "What is the root?"

Rin: "You have got to be joking, a mage of your caliber has to know what the root is."

Artoria: "Actually Rin, I have noticed that the magic (F/N) possesses is quite a bit different than yours and everyone's in this world for that matter. I don't think he actually does know what it is."

Rin: "Fine then. The root is the source of all magic. It is the goal of all mages to get the root. My father failed to during the last Holy Grail War, so I am trying to do it in his place."

(F/N): "Does that mean that your father is dead?"

Rin: "Yeah I found out recently that Kirei is the one that killed him. My mom was seriously hurt in an attack and my sister was adopted into the Matou family, so I have basically been on my own since the last war. Kirei took care of me, but I think he was just raising me like a lamb for slaughter."

(F/N): "You are probably right. I guess we have a similar story then. My parents were both killed when I was seven because they had something that another person wanted. I was then kidnapped and became a slave for the next ten years. I was forced to enslave other people for those ten years before I finally got free."

Rin: "That sounds way worse than my story. I mean Kirei at least pretended to care about me. Also my sister is still alive, so I did get to see her every once and a while. Also I do have friends and things like that."

(F/N): "I guess you are right. I just meant that we both lost our parents at a young age."

Rin: "Why is it that you wanted to win the grail?"

(F/N): "Well I need it to heal myself."

Rin: "You seem fine to me. I mean if you are injured enough that you need the grail to heal, then you shouldn't be able to fight the way that you do."

(F/N): "If I explained more you would not believe me. Let's just say that I have been injured in a way that the grail is my only hope, but I am still able to fight despite that injury."

Rin: "Try me. After all that has happened I guarantee I will believe you."

(F/N): "Fine here it goes then. Please let me finish before you ask questions. I am actually not from this world. I am from another world. In that world there is a group called the Khaos Union that is seeking to destroy everything by reviving a beast called Trihexa. That is not really their objective. The actual plan is to use it to kill another powerful being, who is far more powerful than any mortal can hope to become. However, if these two do clash, it will result in the destruction of the world. I am trying to stop them along with the aid of a group of devils, who are my servants. We ended up having to fight against a god named Loki that aligned himself with the Khaos Union. At one point in the battle I saw my best friend get seriously injured. I suspect that she is dead. As a result I lost my temper and used some power that was sealed away in another dimension that only I have access to. Using this power I challenged the power of a god through my body and used it to destroy Loki. While I am a devil, my body is still mortal so it could not handle all that power. The result was that my body basically failed on me. I was pulled inside my alternate dimension and my body remains there. I created a magical projection of myself that I can control while not in my body as it currently does not function. This magical projection is what you see now. In worlds other than mine it acts exactly like a normal body with no differences. However, to return to my world and save it I need to heal my body. That is why I need the grail, so I can heal my body and return to my world to save it."
